    Touge?

Isnt there a group of people from this board that goes touging? I'd like to come along sometime, if that's cool.

I went by myself last night and it was pretty fun. I certainly didnt go the speed that my friend Scott goes but then again, I'm not as experienced and I'm just getting used to the car after putting the front sway bar in.

Here's the route I went last night:

I headed up US6 towards Blackhawk. Traffic was ok. The only fun parts were when road became 2 lanes for passing.

Then I headed on 119 towards and then past Central City. Nothing special there.

I turned towards Golden Gate Canyon and went through the twisties there. Here's where the fun begins. The roads are small and it's very dark at some spots. I had some trouble with the sharp switchbacks since my car doesnt have power steering. I never had trouble with switchbacks in my Integra w/ PS. At one part, I scared myself when I hit the brake on a sharp turned causing the tail to whip out. I wasnt really going all that fast and for very good reason. There were some parts that had dirt on the road and I went by the spot where Scott lost control and slammed into the side of the mountain.

Anyways, it was fun and I'd like to go again with others.

Touge means winding mountain road. Touging is racing on a winding mountain road. Fun, scary, dangerous, exhilarating.

Call me boring, but this seems like maybe it's not such a good idea.

I'm all for twisty roads, but it's a death wish to be racing around blind turns on the side of a mountain, when there could be oncoming traffic, crap on the road, bicyclists, etc. Not to mention being surrounded by inexperienced drivers who are also racing.

A fast paced cruise along a mountain road is a lot of fun, but it seems like there's always somebody who wants to turn it into a race and will do whatever stupid reckless thing is needed to attempt to take the lead.

I went up 'tougin' today with some other Prelude people... it was fun, but we also played it safe... while we did take corners fairly fast, we kept enough distance, slowed down when other cars/bikes were on the road... I did manage to get my front wheels to break out and start spinning under some light gravel on the pavement, but I kept my direction. I can now say: I finally know what understeer is.

I've done some tougueing by myslef up in Left Hand Canyon, and on Highway 72 up out past 93. Got another road I think would be a lot of fun near Golden also.

I'm all down for a fast cruise, but racing on twisty public roads? No way. By no means do I have the talent to race someone on a twisty road. I can be fast, but I don't want to deal with splitting my concentration between the corners and the guy behind me.

I dont race anyone at all. All I do is drive on my own or ride with someone. And, of course, this is done very late at night so traffic and people are very very minimal. I always look for headlights on oncoming turns too.
