i tried hooking my buddies auto meter tach up on his 98 civic coupe. the wire i always used for the tach signal isnt working on this car. i trid looking up and testing all the wires coming out of the dizzy, none of them work. hes also running a hondata 200 if this matters. is there a tach reference signal from the blue box i can use?

There should be a tach signal ref at the ECU on that car. Not at the distibutor. Look at pin A-19 at the ECU connector (the OBD-II side) it is a blue wire.

edit* here is a diagram of the A connector so you can find the correct wire. Its in the center of the connector.
