    motor for an 87 Integra?

My roomate wants to put a new/used/different motor in his 87 Integra. I told him he should just finance a new car but like many of us, he does not have the fundage. He does however have the funds to purchase a motor. Where is the best place to look for one and what options does he have for upgrading? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think you can swap in any B series motor...not positive tho. If i were him...for the money he could get a nice B16 for under $2k. How much money does he have to spend? That guy Japdomestix on the boards has some pretty cheap prices...i guess you could check him out @ www.japdomestix.com

I think '87 Integra's actually have 1.6L DOHC D series motors in them don't they? Just like the japanese DOHC ZC, but with a black valve cover I believe.
Not 100% sure though. If I'm right then he can bolt on a Greddy D series turbo kit, good cheap fun

Im not exactly sure which motor they came with could they have come with the b17 1.7DOHC non vtec like the like the 90-92's came with. but if it is the 1.6l and if the d16 turbo kits fit on it thats a nice cheap fun way to go i picked up my greddy kit for my d16 and a pretty reasonable price and the performance results are nice for the setup.
    Im not speeding im qualifying.

All ZC's are D Series motors. For example a Header off of a SOHC D series motor would swap onto a ZC (generally).

so any b-series motor should swap right in. a b18a or b18b would bee a good, cheap swap. & easily boostable

Huh? I'm no swap junkie or anything but D and B series motor and tranny mounts are totally different, so what makes a B Series swap easy?

BTW Titus, what do you do all day? I do tech support so thats why I'm lucky to surf HAI and H-T all day long

(typically) no fabrication is required to replace a d-series motor with a b-series motor. The mounts are different, but there are tons of companies that sell motor mount kits for just that purpose.
thats why b-series swaps are so common in civics, they can be done so easily.

I'm an electrical drafter/electrical engineering technician

    so i get to surf HAI all day too ;RoCkOn;

The B17A is the 92-93 Integra GSR motor and it's VTEC. Did you mean the B18A1? That came in all 90-93 Integra's and was the 1.8L DOHC NON VTEC.

The 86-89 Integra motors were D series and the ZC is considered a D series motor but it only came in japan. The Engine code for the 86-89 Integra's should be D16A1 i believe. He could just go for a LS motor (90-93,B18A1) because it's cable and just easiest to stick with....either that or a B16A SiRI OBD0 should work just fine because it also came with a cable tranny.
I'll check into it and see for sure what people have swapped into those year integra's.

    all USDM 90-91 integra's had the b18a engine (130hp 1.8l non-vtec)
    92-93 rs, ls, & gs integra's had the b18b (140hp 1.8l non-vtec)

the 92,93 GSR had the b17a (160hp 1.7L vtec) as noted above
