Two Ponticrack GTP kills in 24 hours!!

So last night, I-25 around MM 252 or so had a nice race Vs. a White Pontiac GTP. It was from 4th gear about 90mph to 5th somewhere past 125mph (that's as far as the little needle goes). I ended up taking him at the top of 5th, it was a good race.

Next: JFK in Fort Collins, green GTP, old man like 40 or so with his wife in the car!! I didn't even know we were racing, we went from 2nd all the way to rev limiter in 3rd, (about 83mph in my car) took him at the top of 3rd, also a good race!!

First off no 5th gen hatchback came with a 6cyl motor stock. The biggest would be 1.6 4cyl

Try to find out what model at least he has, if he has an Si (which is kinda unlikey) then that would be a great motor to learn and build on. If he has any somthing different or alot of miles on the motor I would suggest a swap.

I went the swap route JDM B16 SiR II (fast as most boosted d16's) and I have alot more potential to work with.

Funny, stock to stock my GTI wasn't that far off of a V8 Camaro at the drag strip. WIth less than 700 invested lightly modded SS's are pretty easy to take out. Come back when you have a clue.

The sad part is I did an ip check and he isn't another member trolling around, so this guy is either really this dumb, or a genuine internet troll ( how rare they are)

Okay, I'll be the nice guy. Here's the deal. If your friend really wants to make some power, tell him to not even bother with N/A mods, i.e., exhaust, header, intake, whatever. Hondas are very effecient from the factory so those parts don't really do much to unlock hidden power. The real power is in the FI (forced induction) route. Anybody who knows anything about making power in cars should understand that the turbocharger is hands down the best way to make power, period. The supercharger comes second, and nitrous is somewhere in between, depending on wether or not you like renting horsepower. This goes for ALL combustion engines, not just imports (It's all the same shit just in case you failed to realize that). This is probably good enough to get the ball rolling so I will let some other people chime in if they find the patience to deal with you.

P.S. Good power can be made with N/A applications, but at this altitude, it's just not the way to go. Also, an engine swap seems to be the start of most N/A build-ups and that is an expensive first step.

And before I am done, if you would really like to see some imports with large amounts of power (i.e., Civics with 500+ wheel horsepower, you can check on www.honda-tech.com. There are a few there, but a quick word of advice, I probably wouldn't open my mouth over there like you did over here, becuase you have NO argumentitive skills and apparently NO knowledge to back up your beliefs (which have no basis). But have fun.

Umm a Grand National and a Buick T-type are basically the SAME car for those of you who didn't know. They are very badass cars and will run circles around most other cars o the road. They are capable of VERY quick 1/4 mile times with minimal mods. I still don't think this homo has one though.

I have an 86' T-Type, everyone mistakely thought the 87 Grand National was the one who came out and beat the vette, it was really the 86' T-Type

I know any car can match that or beat it, but my car is mainly stock and it is very easy to modify, if your civic wants to race a regal or GN, then you better put your money into expensive mods then betting it away

I am not a big racer, I have only been to the track about 5 times or so, if I was big on racing I would modify it like the original owner did with his regal( his car can run 10 seconds or less)

Hate to 1) bring the thread back on topic, and 2) burst your bubble, but GTPs are electronically limited to 126mph. ;)

Is the 15.9 in your sig still current? GTPs run 15.7-16.0 at Bandimere bone stock on pump gas.

Nothing other than the fact that you've given yourself a big head over a "kill" that a) isn't really valid, and b) won't happen against a good driver or modded GTP. No offense. Just remember that there's always someone faster out there. This is, of course, assuming that your 15.9 is still your best time.

When I first had my limiter removed in my GTP, I had a smaller pulley, intake and exhaust, and on I-25 I hit 143mph - and ran out of balls before I ran out of pedal. Was about 4K RPMs in 4th.

I never did see the top of 4th at WOT, the whole time I owned it. Very rarely saw the top of 3rd (130ish).

Regardless of limiters and horsepower and how many boxes of huggies he had in the trunk. Modded or not wasn't ever the point, and good driver? I don't know too many people that have a hard time mashing the pedal to the wood in an AUTOMATIC. Some skill.

So, I guess that every race that everyone has ever been in and won was just luck that they beat the other car. There is no way that the car was faster or the driver was better, because going off of past experiance YOU KNOW better than anyone that I couldn't have beat these two cars, am I right? Now, on the first one.
Lets say a Viper, and a Yugo race. You limit the viper to 55 MPH, you both leave from a roll. The viper gets up to 55 in about 3.5 seconds, the yugo gets there in 20 or so, and then finally makes it to 60 MPH about 25 seconds from the start. 10 miles down the road the yugo eventually catches and passes the Viper. Because the viper couldn't go any faster than 55, and the yugo was going 60.
Now, would you say the Yugo won? Thats all we are wondering.

As far as the Solo guys drag racing, yes I have, we even have our own class now called STS, so do some research before you assume that noone that drag races Solo races, or noone that Solo races drag races. I do both, in fact a few people did both just this past weekend and I was one of them. Bandi Sat, and Solo on Sunday.

I know that my car isn't faster than ALL Pontiacs.....I never said that, once again, in plain english, all I did was race two differant cars in the same day, and at the end of it all I saw was GM headlights in my rearview.

And as far as my 1/4 mile time is concerned, that was a personal best set last summer at LACR. There have been many modifications to the car since then, I should have new dyno results posted soon.

Well that's true, see at Solo events your time doesn't start untill you break the first beam so after the guy tells you to go you can just sit there and eat a cheesburger and it has no ill affects on your time, it's kinda nice.

I still do a mean drag launch burnout....I've been yelled at for it :(

My car has an exhaust. I believe even minivans have exhausts. I must be missing something? BTW, I really don't know anyone who just has an upgraded exhaust and euro lights here... honestly. This guy prolly bought some Mustang Cobra or Camaro and feels kinda cocky about it... sorry that you had to spend your $20,000 on something that import drivers can spend $10k on and beat you.

you can buy a used mustang or camaro for under 5 grand
if you buy one new its around the 20k, but hondas are about the same too

Why is it that any domestic vs. import race always turns into a performance/dollar or resale value thread?

Which do you think more people would take:
1. Gutted no interior Civic that runs high 15's (in CALI) after a motor swap
2. Late model camaro, ta or mustang that runs 13s, full interior?

Price would be about the same.

I think once you strip the interior out of your car to nothing but a tach the size of your head and one (1) "racing" seat, the resale/value/build quaility argument goes out the window.

I've take several people, including many from this board for rides in my car, they were all impressed. Sure, the interior isn't the same as an Audi, or BMW, but neither is a Civic's.

People like different cars for different reasons.

the reason why people think import cars hold together better, because American cars have more balls stock then imports

civics were not made for racing, they were made for people trying to save a buck, 32/37 mpg, cheap comfort, 127horses

if I was a person who just needed to get around and I did not want a nice car, just a basic car to get around, Iwould choose a civic

thats why I like my aurora over my regal sometimes, the aurora has every option in it and its pretty quick and hasnt let me down against any car yet

and yes its all about opinions, but if you would rather buy a stock civic over a stock camaro or mustang and pay the same, then thats cool 8)

well i wanna hold up the bs flag on that statement because a lot of imports that have balls were never imported.

other than that, i have no problem with domestics, in fact i love their engines. which is why i'm doing the carburated V8 350 swap on my rx7. if it works out the way i want it too, i'm doing it on my 300zx. just gonna combine the best of both worlds.
