a bunch of you guys know my bud Earnie, who's looking at buying an eclipse GSX that he found. well, we brought it down to boosthard & mike checked it out, & its in awsome condition. So he was going to purchase it this morning.
but on his way back to the dealership this morning, iit got about 12mpg, cruzing on the highway at 3k rpm? now doesnt that seem really low? does anyone have any ideas on what would be causing that?
& its fully stock other than an HKS catback. & the motor checked out great. 150 150 150 150 compression.

If it has a fuel pump in it then the stock FPR could be getting over ran and running super rich...just a though. Or he could be getting some bad timing.

Boost leak..You could be loosing air that the mas is counting causing the ecu to add more fuel than the is needed for the air that actually reaches the head.

naw, he only factored in cruising on the highway at 3k rpm with the cruise control.
however...he did some math wrong...so he's more likely getting 16-17 mpg
Also keep in mind that car dealers are cheap asses and only put 85 in all the cars on the lot. So if it requires premium, wouldn't the knock sensor kick in and maybe effect milage? Just something to think about.
my talon got shitty gas milage always, well then again I never drove it below 3k rpm's:D

In my dad's Lincoln it has an instant gas mileage meter. It's fun to floor it from a stop and have it go all the way up to 1 mile per gallon, then when you reach about 95 miles an hour, let off the gas and watch it shoot up to 99 mpg. 99 is as high as it goes.

i agree, i just got my car and one of the first things i did was a boost leak check, i found 2 cracked hoses and a leak in the throttle body at the shaft seals. after i fixed em my car gets way better gas mileage and is quite a bit quicker. i would recomend every one with a forced air vehicle do one. i just built my own, it costs like 15 bucks and is well worth it.

i dunno, i think i get 25 on the highway, but it seems like i only get 5mpg in the city. Maybe its just that lead foot of mine :)
