yeah, but i'm sure aftermarket manifolds will be one fo teh first things avaliable for the car. If you do a turbo upgrade, then you can swap the manifold at the same time.

Car manufacturers don't design things with tuners in mind, they don't give a damn about moddability.

They sell those things all over ebay.............its the same setup the turbo PT cruiser uses

1st gen DSMers have to upgrade the manifold when they upgrade the turbo so you just have to do the same thing to a Neon.
No biggie for people who want to go fast.

03-23-2003, 01:13 AM
yea they dont want you to be able to mod it too much so they do gay shit like that. Oh well, just get a manifol upgrade like everyone has said.
As long as you buy the car, they don't care what you do with it.

its amazing they managed to get as much power as they did with engineering like that:rolleyes:
What's wrong with that? No gaskets equals no blown gaskets, not to mention no leaks and a smoother run.
chrisbarnett01

The car was designed to be modified. I know 2 of the PVO designers personally.
However, the people who have to approve things wouldn't approve the larger turbo, so they insisted on using the PT turbo's unit. Less production costs, still makes gobs of power, less warranty claims, etc.
But Mopar will have 3 different turbo upgrades available for the SRT. Hahn Racecraft has stuff in the works, as does ATP turbo, etc.
When my shop opens in the next month, I will have larger up pipes, downpipes, and eventually better manifolds and turbo combinations.
SRT4's are amazingly fast.
Only one running around Denver right now though, owned by DCX, being driven by the Denver region Marketing Manager for DCX. Bright yellow, nice guy, not too much of a car enthusiast though.

A turbo-charged Integra isn't necessarily ghey. It CAN be. A Neon will ALWAYS be ghey. As a wise friend of mine once said....you can put a turbo on a piece of cat shit, but you still have a piece of cat shit.
I haven't yet seen the ass-end of a Neon (except for the day at Bandimere when I was in the stands, when "Colorado's Fastest Neon" became "Colorado's Most Broken Neon" after his engine exploded and dumped oil all the way down the rack), and I don't plan on it anytime soon.

well...would you rather drive around in a bone stock 93 integra or 93 neon???
how many neons are still on the road in good condition?
how many boosted neons are there compared to boosted b-series motors?

:werd: A co-worker of mine (huge Dodge/Chrysler fan) got rid of his Neon because it was starting to fall apart around 60-80k miles.
A stock Neon is ghey, a stock Civic/Integra isn't. While I'm not a huge fan of Civic's, I don't think they're ghey. I wouldn't be caught dead driving around in a Neon, turboed or not.

Um, you definitely aren't talking about the fastest neon.
The only neon I know of that blew up at Bandimere(other than axles) was Dwain, and he was only running 15.2's....but he only destroyed a clutch, which exploded, and took out his bellhousing, radiator, etc. Motor was fine.
AFAIK, I've got the fastest neon in Colorado, 12.8@105 at Bandimere.
I know pretty much 90% of the owners of modified neon's in Denver, and only one is close to me, with a 13.1. Next up is a 14.3, then a 14.6, then 14.7, etc.
I like neons, you guys like Accords, or Civics, or whatever. I've had both a Neon and a Civic, and the neon was a better car. MUCH more fun to drive, similar reliability, etc. I have no problem with people not liking neon's, but I definitely shouldn't be labeled a fag because I drive one.

This Neon supposedly ran 10's. He was green, with yellow decals, and big ol slicks on it. Don't KNOW if he ran 10's, cuz he blew up. He dumped engine oil all the way down the track, and the track was closed for about 90 minutes. He billed himself as "Colorado's Fastest Neon", which is why I put it in quotes.
For the record, I didn't say YOU were gay, I said NEON'S were ghey.

If he's from Colorado, I'm pretty sure he runs 15's. If he's faster than that, than no one in www.coloradoneons.com has ever heard of him, and we've got about 50 members. We usually have at least one person at each Bandimere event, and we've never seen anyone other than those in the club break out of the 15's.
The fastest neon ever to come to Colorado was the Phatridz car, they went 9.75, but they aren't from Colorado. (excluding the pro stock "neons")
And thanks for the clarification, I think. :) :)

Well, it was a long time ago, and my geezer brain can't remember the specifics. I just remember his color and the color of his decals, and that he was turboed. Maybe he said "Fastest American Neon", I truthfully don't remember exactly. I just remember that he was supposed to run 10's, and we were all pissed off at having to sit in the stands in 90 degree weather while they cleaned the track.

Theyre certainly a better value than neons when it comes to longevity and build quality, those things are worth paying for too.

Trust me if the neon you are talking about is the full race green neon then I know which car you are talking about. And if I am corect it was the fastes FWD import for a while too. So yes it is fast and a 9 or10 second car. Oh did I mention it is an automatic. ANd belive me it didn't blow up just because it is a neon, all those pro-import cars blow up all the time. So Obi are you saying that Neons have no potential? Because I bet there are a lot of 13 second and faster neons out there that would like to prove you wrong.......

whoever thinks neons are "ghey do0d", they are just the american version of the civic to me. They both are very small, cheap interior, not many options, 4 cyl, in a race it would be very close if they were stock

I'm thinking there are going to be a lot of hurt ego's when more of the srt-4's hit the street... and I'm willing to bet that the srt-4's will be quite a bit more reliable then any of our boosted hondas that are running enough boost to hit the same times... and I am no neon lover, I just hope that honda pulls its head out of its ass, and nissan, and toyota... competition can be very good for everyone... or not :(

I get your point. They all fill the same segment, and are designed for the same thing. I don't think Neons are crap just becuase theyre domestic or whatever... Having driven a few, they aren't that bad to drive, but they are more cheaply built than my civic in terms of interior trim, panel fitment, weld and wiring quality and so forth. My grandma has one, and even grandma-driven neons see the shop more than they should.

A SRT-4 is gay but some how underpowered hondas are what all the real tuners drive right? It's called knowledge, get some. The SRT-4 may have similar body characteristics to a base neon, but the similarities stop there. Lightened/stiffened frame, new suspension/brakes, completely different engine, and it has hit high 13's STOCK. This car is the real deal. What are you honda fanboys gonna say when this "neon" hands you your ass? Anyone that doesnt see value in a 20k dollar car that hits high 13's and corners better than your honda better take a wiff of reality. Its ok to not like a cars looks but to dismiss the biggest sport compact car acheivement in the last few years is just foolish. Come on a fast car is a fast car open your eyes.

Its almost a sleeper and thats what makes it great. You can say what ever you like about the apearance but there is no denying that the SRT-4 offers more for the price than any other new 4banger on the market. Competition is good. Competition is what brought the EVO and soon the STI over here. The SRT-4 is gonna spark some competition, in a market which could use some. Mitsu, Subaru and Dodge aside no other manufacturer is making sport compact cars of this level. Its time they started.

Exactly.
The SRT4 paves the way for OEM turbo Honda's, a better Mazda Protege, the soon to be debuted Nismo Sentra SE-R, turbo cavaliers, turbo Focus', etc. Better Subaru's, Mitsubishi's, maybe even Kia and Hyundai will get involved. We all know Saturn has a turbo FWD coming out soon.
Reminds me of the 60's. Chrysler debuted the Hemi motor, GM and Ford soon had GIANT big blocks making way more power than before. Take the smallest car, stick the biggest baddest motor you can find in it.
Up until a few years ago economy cars were just that, cars built to be economical. Now, they are becoming FAST. IE faster than most of the muscle and sports cars of the last 20 years.
You may not like the Neon, but you'll like what it brings to the table, and what the other manufacturer's bring to the table to compete.
The neon filled its purpose. Cheap, lightweight transportation that kicked ass on the racetrack. When it came out in 94 as a 95 model, it OWNED SCCA road racing, and SCCA autocrossing. Now it is owning autocrossing, AND drag racing(the Phatridz neon has fastest elapsed time ever for FWD unibody now, a 8.53).
I really don't care if Honda guys don't want neons, I just wish they would realize that the Neon is much more like a Honda Civic than the Civic is to a Ferrari or Skyline. Seems every riceboy Civic owner with 2 modifications thinks he's in the baddest car ever built. When in reality its still a Civic, and probably not any faster than stock.
My favorite thing about Honda owners? Most of those that modify their cars do it to be "different" from everyone else. OK great. But it's a pointless idea when everyone and their mother has a modified Honda. I see at least one at every redlight I stop at nowadays. Modified Neons? I see maybe one every week or two. And I have yet to see one with an unpainted body kit!
The new Mazda Protoge comes turbo for under 21k i think it was

Yeah. Hopefully, getting their asses handed to them by a turbocharged crap-box will finally convince a number of manufactureres (read: Honda) that its time to stop toying around with the American market and give us something we can sink our teeth into. hrmm..I was just watching the video of the neon blowing its guts next to Tobi..it caught him pretty fast...definately not a 15s car.
Anyway, my only real neon experience is with a girl I used to date. Her parents got her one that was NEW and it was the biggest freaking lemon EVER. Sunroof leaking, weatherstripping falling off, engine problems galore. I've never heard of anyone say that about a new honda they purchased..ever. On the other hand, I've heard a LOT of people say that about neons. They also seem to suffer from a lot of the same problems across the entire line of cars...bad paint, shitty headlight covers, blah blah..the list goes on.
I'm definately not a fan of the neon, but I'm going to respect the new one the first time I see it on the street. Am I afraid of it however? HELL NO! The idea of a finely tuned compact for $20k seems a little silly to me...I cant imagine that Dodge was able to make it fast, handle well, be reliable, and retain value...for that kinda money. My car is kinda the new benchmark in the sport compact realm...how about a standing challenge to the first person that gets the SRT neon? Using Newt2's rules of course...
1/4 mile ET run, road course, then autocross. Fastest total time after all 3 are added..wins.
Still think the Neon would stack up? I say bring it on. :guns:

I don't understand why everyone always bashes the srt-4. Members of club18t.com did the same thing when I posted about it over there. The funny thing is that most of the people that say it's gay and slow will never see anything but the back end of them as they speed off into the sunset. If a stock neon is gay, so is a stock civic, or a stock accord. Being that i've spent the bulk of my past 4 or 5 summers at the track, i've been impressed more and more by the neon. I seem to recall one running 5 psi that turned 13's. They seem to have quite a lot of potential. The SRT-4 is a huge step i nthe right direction....

i think a huge part of it is the stigma that comes with the name NEON. neons are gay highschool girl cars. & they are garbage.
if tehy came out with another "compact" car under a different name that didnt look like ass...then it'd get more respect. the neon has proven itself to be such a piece in the past...why not start off with somethign fresh?

you think neons are highschool girls cars....look at the Civic! I know 5 girls at my school who own one and all the girls think they are "cute cars" and they think they are fast, comfy, the real deal, I know atleast 5 of my friends moms who own them, lol. So if your gonna start saying neons are for girls, look in the mirror
Not to say girls dont race, its just a little rare, Ever since they seen fast and the furious everyone in my school who owned a honda went nuts thinking there car was a 10 second car
I know 1 girl and 1 guy who own neons, I dont like neons, but I'm not going to bash them. I will bash honda owners who think there car is the best, ffs I seen atleast 10 hondas last night that were slightly modified, and they were ricers
whenever honda owners get in an argument over this, they talk about how relible there car is, and yes hondas are relible, they wern't made for racing. I dont know much about the turbo neon coming out, but I am not a real big fan of 4cyl cars, turbo or not, no offense, I just like a 3.8 car or up

who cares everyone has their own personal option on anything. So what if the majority of Honda owners think neons are "gay".
Stop name calling and maybe bust out some #'s to prove each other wrong. Neon's can be made just as fast as most our Honda's, might not be such a strong aftermarket support for them as our cars but still stuff out there.

I will bash honda owners who think there car is the best, ffs I seen atleast 10 hondas last night that were slightly modified, and they were ricers

im talking about the stigma that comes with neons. i didnt say civics dont have their own...i meant, 90% of modded civics on the road are ricers. however, you can overcome the stigma. this site probably has the best looking & performing civics in the state. i mean, look at Pang's SI, Alex's SI, Mike's old SI, ted's hatch, etc etc etc.
i have yet to see a neon up to par with the asthetics of their cars.
& no, civic's were not made to be race cars. but they were built well. b16a or b18c1 & you can run 15's easy. then boost them at 8 psi.
now you can do similar stuff with neons...& if that floats your boat, you dont need my approval.
but remember, its still a neon

Theres a REALLY good racer here in D.C. Who has a 99 yellow Dodge neon turbo and NOS.. he is pushing somehwere around 400 or more.. all i know is that no one races him for cash unless their dumbenough.... Ill have to ask more about the guy since my best friend is good friends with him. The guy drives a civic but he rarely bring sout his neon.

Some people like Neon's, some people don't.
That's fine with me. It always has been.
Bad thing about a neon though, is that you get laughed at by import racers, and you get laughed at by V8/Domestic racers.
Funny thing is, I'm faster than 90% of the street cars out there.

Oh and since we are on the looks thing guys, I want you to remeber that looks are subjective. Personally i think the Lancer is a ugly heap. Does that take away form the fact that it hauls ass? No it doesn't......................All I am really saying here is that car will be every bit as reliable as any one of your turbo Hondas. Not only that it will be faster, not only in stock form for the most part, but also when modded. I'm not taking anything away from Hondas. I do like them a lot, but the neon deserves respect whether you guys think it does or not.....

Don't forget the Neon will have a 7 year 100000 Mile powertrain warranty. That will remain intact even when Mopar performance upgrade packages are added. There will be 3 stages. From fast to fastest:)

Dude, the turbine housing is cast into the exhaust manifold. That means it is impossible to upgrade the turbo without replacing the whole thing! You also have a restrictive downpipe to deal with as well.

Oh I see it now. Duh. Hmm, that sucks, but tube runners will be lighter anyways so if you're gonna upgrade do it right. Though I do like how it loops back aroudn and the downpipe part is all the same cast. Maybe not the most effective performancly but it's still innovative

yah, I would. Oldsmobile Sucks, GTO will suck and get spanked by certain other cars not to mention GM's stupendous interior trim panels (read: gross, fugly, cheap), and a big SUV will eat gas, taxes and registration, insurance, and wallet all in one big swipe. Again, I never said Neon's were for gay people, I said the cars were ghey. In other words, POS's, nasty, disposable, slow cars.
A Caddy is indeed an overpriced Chevy. Looks like a Chevy, powered by Chevy, runs like a Chevy (slow, loud, and cracks a cylinder head at 100k miles), but has a fancy badge that you pay $10k extra for.
So, you're getting an Aurora huh? What color plaid pants do you wear? Did your grandfather cut you a good deal on the car?

How can you honestly post stuff like this and still have dignity? Have you ever been in or driven a Cadillac? NO where in the standard Chevy line up will you find that kind of luxury, PERIOD. Im not talking about Neons, Im talking about the cars I listed.
a Caddy is powered by GM as well as Chevy, GM to me makes the best motors, you may think different and thats ok, its a matter of what kind you like. You say these cars are slow......well any car I listed would probably smoke an accord stock to stock. And if your car is very modified, what makes you think you cant modify these cars?
The Aurora and Caddys are pretty quiet cars for the engines it has in them, and I hope you dont have flowmasters or one of those big ass tips that makes the buzzing sound, because thats loud and makes me want to punch the fucking teeth out of the driver of that car.
Why do you think these cars are just made for 100k. The Northstar Engines (caddys and aurora have them) will run over 300k easily, They are one of the best engines around, I owned 4 GM cars and none of them had a cracked cylinder. And yes the emblems are nice, but would never pay 10k for one 8)
No I dont where plaid pants, are you a wigger that has his ass hanging out? Just because I am driving a rich mans car doesnt make me a rich man, makes me lucky to drive a nice car that is pretty quick in my eyes, no racer, but the thing cruises, I am very proud of owning one
but stock to stock, the accord is out of their league in everything, except mpg, and other stuff thats good economy wise, the accord is a basic car to me, now if you put a couple K's in it, yea it will probably be faster, but its still an accord...

cadillacs are probably the most comfortable cars ive driven in, thats why they are designed they way they are, so you can just drive it and forget about everything, but they are in a different league than accord. accord is not usually considered a luxury car, but caddys are a bit overpriced IMO.

And oh yeah, I'm very sure the new Neon will "rip my Accord a new asshole hands down". [/sarcasm] And how can you say I drive "just an Accord" when you drove "just a Civic" and now drive "just a Jetta"? I feel feminine just crawling into a Jetta.
And while you may think a Cadillac is nicer than my car, at least mine will (check that, HAS) last over 100,000 miles.
i never claimed my cars were the shit, did I? I don't remeber saying my car was any better than anyone of the cars mentioned here. However, my Si would have ripped you a new one and so will my "feminine" Jetta if you care to try, DOHC VTEC or not. But my question is how do you not feel feminine crawling into an accord? Oh did I mention that my Jetta is probably a lot nicer inside than your accord? Answer me this, do you have heated seats, Mirrors? What I can say though is my jetta is leaps and bounds nicer than my Civic was in the department of fit and finish. And it's funny how this turns out, but my good old 1.8T seems to be a pretty damn good engine as well. Like I said you are making me stupid just by reading the ignorant things you have to say. hey Brandon if you see this maybe we can go crusie our "feminine" Jettas together............Good shot at me, but try again. This time make me feel smart though:)
Oh and one more thing. I am failing to see the sarcasm in my statement about the neon ripping your accord a new one. What do you see sarcastic about that? The truth's a bitch........

Who said jettas and accords were feminine. I've never heard anything like that before. I love both accords and jettas, they are good cars, but I don't see neither of them as feminine or masculine.

Me either, I was just responding to DOHCVTEC_Accord's comment about my jetta being feminine...

lol.
Cadillac's have their OWN motors. IE not GM. Northstar V8? 300+ hp FWD engine, its NOT a GM design. It was done in house at Cadillac.
Now, the upcoming CTS V series(Type V?) has the next generation C6 corvette engine, but damn, who cares. It's fast.
In reality, most people like their cars vs. other cars. I just wish people were more informed, and didn't have stupid reasons for hating other brands.
If you don't like the looks, or the name, thats fine. If you hate a car because it's manufacturer has a certain stigma attached to their identity, well, that's stupid.

Cadllic has the Northstar 4.6 L, its still a GM car
Northstar 32v DOHC 4.6L
the Aurora is 32v DOHC 4.0
both are Northstars
How come none of you guys touched on the fact that Northstar engines are designed to go at least 100,000 miles before it's first tune-up. Saying that your car has 100,000 miles on it is a pretty weak argument when the engine in question goes that long without a single tune-up.

I was gonna say something about that, but forgot. ;)

Northstars are designed by gm powertrain just like every other GM motor.
