View Full Version : Carbon Fiber & Fuel Questions...

Hey hey okay I've been hearing some crazy shit lately, I'll start off with the fuel pressure regulator because it's the question that weirds me out the most...

Okay I've herd that if you put a fuel pressure regulator on a honda (AEM) it actually hurts your performance more than it helps... Is there any truth to this??

Next...

Last week I herd from a good friend of mine that Carbon Fiber hoods are not good... They contract a hell of a lot more heat and it ends up heating up your engine more and highly rasies the air temputure under the hood... Also they chip very easily from rocks and discolor easiely... Then after my friend told me all this he pushed on the center of another friends hood and it flexed like krazie... I guess my question is ANY OF THIS TRU? I've herd that you can get like a solor protectant on a CF hood, does that help against the dis coloring and the chipping? Also about the heat, he said it gets so hot that somtimes it can melt parts of your valve cover or something like that... Now I normaly garage my car but like at work I'm not going to be able to and that could mean numerous hours in the heat and sunlight... Can anyone confirm any of this information... Thanx a bunch guys

After hearing all of this I decided on going with the Fiber glass hood which seemed like a better idea anywayz to keep the stock look so my last question is; where can I get a fiber glass hood for a 92-95 Civic 2/3 door and about how much do they cost, if it is quite a bit less than a CF hood I might just go with this route anywayz... Thanx again

Your boys must me smoking some good shit.

Also you wanna stay away from fiberglass for a daily driver, those are prone to cracking more than anything. Look at some body kits that are made of that stuff, looks like shit if it's lowered and driven everyday.

All that other stuff is BS.

FPR = good if you have mods to justify it
CF retains heat? HAHAHAHAHAH!
CF POS? HAHAHAHAHA- only cheap CF. remember: "You get what you pay for"

speaking of cheapo CF...the guy that owns your old car now has a pretty dinged up one on it now.

ive even seen people use no Aftermarket FPR even when running turbo. You remember the brothers with the turbo black civic coupe and the green hatchback? The black coupe had a stock FPR. As for the carbon fiber hood, you've seen joels and pangs...they seem to have no problems with theirs. Just buy good quality and you shouldn't have a problem. Fiberglass is crap and that's what would crack more easier than CF.

Next time your "friend" tells you somthing that makes your chin drop make him explain it. If his answer starts out "This one guy told me..." dont beleive the crap flying out of his mouth. Think about it, how could delivering more fuel to a modified car be bad. As far as the hoods if this was true then manufactures wouldnt paint cars BLACK. You want a CF hood that has a frame under it like your OEM hood and it should have a UV coating. Check out www.visracing.com they make decent hoods and they are all over ebay.

carbon fiber can absorb heat, but not much, nothing to worry about. if you don't like the look of carbon fiber, paint it. carbon fiber is still better than fiberglass in strength and weight. also, like others said, make sure its from a reputable company.

Carbon fibre - I don't get it. IMHO it's rice unless you are building a drag-only car and are trying to reduce weight.

FPR hurting performance? Maybe if the base pressure isn't set properly.

Whoever told you this shit needs to have their ass kicked while a bunch of women watch..

True carbon fiber is lighter than aluminum but is as strong as metal.................... carbon fiber isn't just for lightning your car, $hit I buy it for the styling not the reduced weight.

I have to stand with HondaGhandi on this one...you definately get what you pay for with that sort of thing. If you get nice pre-preg carbon that was laid up and fired in a kiln...compressed like it should be...THEN coated with resin..its going to be stronger than ANY hood you can get. At the expense of tensile strength of course..it really likes to shatter when you hit it with point loads. :(

I worked with a LOT of carbon when I was in college...the solar vehicle team used all types of it on the car...and I learned quite a bit about composites. Your friends dont know their own heads from their asses would be my guess...because they are talking out of something...and it appears to be their ass.

As far as fuel pressure, I dont really know ANYTHING about it...but if you are boosting...more is almost always better. So again, it sounds like your 'friends' dont know shit. Why make yourself look bad and ask these questions on here? If you buy a cheapass $50 carbon hood off of fucking EBAY...you get a cheapass fucking hood. Period. Its not something that you can do halfway...carbon is one of the best insulators for heat that exists...too bad your friends obviously have never worked with it. You know WHY it can get hot? Its normally fucking BLACK in color....wow....brilliant concept there!

If you have a stock car, pushing your Fuel Pressure up is gonna hurt you. Its nice with a turbo'd car though :)
