View Full Version : Buying a messed up JRSC?

I was planning to buy a used JRSC for my LS, but the guy called me today and said the rotors (or maybe he said "blades") were all chipped up. I asked him if it still makes boost and he said it would do 5 psi for him. As far as I know, he's got the standard 6 psi pulley. Maybe the elevation has something to do with it?

I need to do my timing belt anyway, so it's not like installing this would be much extra effort. And my thinking is that a little boost is better than no boost (especially with the thin air up here), and I could probably get it for even cheaper than the $1100 I was originally going to pay. I'm not looking for a ton of power; I'm just tired of this elevation kicking my N/A ass.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of damage? How much is this setup worth (comes with the questionable blower, the JRSC intake manifold, FMU, etc)? Any thoughts or suggestions on my situation? How much would it cost me to get another blower for it? Any idea on how much it'd cost to get the current blower repaired?

Thanks

yeah, we get about 1 PSI less on our gauges due to elevation.
Not sure how much new ones cost or how much it would cost to fix, but ask him how big the chunks out of the rotors are. FWIW, eaton SC's force the air around the sides of the casing, not through the rotors like you'd think, so it's entirely possible that those chips won't hurt it too much, again, depending on how big they are.

If the rotors are chipped, it was most likely spun too fast, overheated, and may have started to contact the housing. If you know the blower pulley size and the crank pulley size, you can calculate it yourself how fast it was spun. It probably only makes 5 PSI because the rotors are now out of tolerance in the housing, with too much gap to create a good seal around the interior.

I'd offer him no more than a few hundred for the whole setup, and that's if everything else was in pristine condition. The only place I've seen that will repair blowers is:

Superchargersonline.com (http://www.superchargersonline.com/repair/)

I have no idea how much they charge, you have to get a quote.

If I were you, I'd really consider shopping for another setup. This one sounds like it'll be a headache.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll take a look at it and go from there...

Is there any chance an Eaton M90 blower will fit? The M90 looks the same to me and it seems to be easy to come by and cheap. Which blowers would be compatible replacements for the LS JRSC? Does Jackson Racing just use plain Eaton blowers, or are they special in some way?

No an M90 will not fit, Brian and I looked into this on our Si's. m It seems that they are just a little too big.
