For its suspension the Lightning adds brand new Bilstein monotube shocks with better dampening than the tubular, gas-charged shocks found in last year's truck. The rest of the suspension and chassis remains unchanged. Compared to the 2000 model truck on hand during the drive you feel much more secure in tight corners and during hard driving. The Lightning hugs the road like Lycra on a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model. When combined with the limited-slip differential in the rear and specially formulated Goodyear Eagle tires, the Lightning exhibits the best handling found in a pickup truck not sporting all-wheel drive. Any of the understeer you normally expect to find in a pickup during aggressive cornering was quickly overcome using the accelerator.

you cant tow with those, they are just like the old school typhoons, only a limit of like 500 pounds or something i think

You can tow 5000 pounds with a Lightning.

Have you guys seen the new concept? It'll be 500 horses with a deal that Ford calls a "power cooler" or something like that. Air conditioning gets forced into the intercooler to provide an extra 50 horsepower for 30-45 seconds; then it takes 2 minutes to be recharged.

Back when I used to hang out at Bandimere pretty regularly a lightly modded Lightning would run low 14's; stock were low 15's.

lightnings are actually pretty quick only a .10 sec slower than the cobras and as for four wheelin it is outa the question considering they are RWD not 4wd .... does anybody know any thing about the new 507 boss ford trucks?? I have seen a couple around town and wondered if they were fast

I saw a Lightning with just a K&N hit a 14.7 at Bandi.

Didnt the earlier lightnings(99's) have the SC as an option?

The mid '90s lightnings were still more of a truck with just a little more horsepower and a graphics kit. Definetly not what they have become.

The first generation Lightning came with a 351 from the factory, and was made from 1993-95. After that, all of the Lightnings made, (from '99-up) came with a supercharger.

One of the local Supra guys named Danny has a Lightning and he pulls his Supra to the track with it. Seems to have plenty of payload for that. He loves it. I sure would love one too. I remember seeing on the showroom and they had a sticker on the window that showed a Markup in Denver that was like 5k more then normal. I only have enough budget for one Rear wheel drive NON winter vehicle or I would have one. The Supra is so big and fat that it can't get out of it's own way when there is gravel or a light dusting of snow.

Kevin: Are you a member of the local SVT Contour club? If not, there's been some talk of a G2G coming up soon over at www.focaljet.com. Look under the "Team 5280" forum. :)

I am personally not a member, but my roommate is. He also has an SVT Contour. I heard about the the get together, but I can't imagine all this snow being gone by then. Perhaps I should sign up as a member. The car is currently for sale though. Decided on an awd or 4wd vehicle as my winter car. Imagine that right? I think I am a little late on deciding that. LOL How have you been Tommy? How is Dave? How are the two beasts (Mustang and SS)?

Kevin: Do you have the Contour up on a website? I'd love to see it.

Dave's SS is still good, he's done some more suspension stuff. My Mustang is still awaiting the new parts.....soon though.

My friends web company does have a couple shots of it.

Still waiting for parts on the beast huh? That is incredible. Think it will be ready for the summer fun? I just got the car out of the paint shop. They removed 6 dents, lots of scratches, painted the whole front end and both rear quarters. They installed my new Veilside hood, front lip, and fixed the supports for my targa top. The car looks spectacular. Soon as this snow goes away it's off to the tranny shop. We should meet up for beers and bs one of these nights.

How much are you selling the Contour for, and do you have any new pix of the Supra?

I told Dave and he'd be up to go hangin' w/some brews as well.

Supposedly the Mustang's going under the wrench this weekend...

I haven't taken any pictures of the Supra since it's been out. I need to get a digital camera. But I can borrow one. I will do that once the snow clears up.

Sounds good to me. Beers and cars.

Well I am pretty excited to see your monster. As you know I am a huge fan. I often toy with the idea of getting a beast like that.
