went out friday night and pulled up next to a new cobra still had temp tags, it was some 45 yr old man. we were sitting at the light and i crack my window to listen for a rev and i didnt hear anything then the light turned green and he spun the tires and we get to the next light and he looks at me and shakes his head andthe light turnes green and right off the line i had about 2 cars on him once we got to third he started catching up but then the light turned red son for that race i guess you could say i got him good thing the light turned red. overall i was very happy.

i also had a passenger and he was alone.

You probably made him feel stupid for shaking his head, but he would have claimed his pride back after he passed you. Good thing the light turned red. How come you didn't race a third time?

What kind of car do you drive? You didn't mention it and it's not in your profile. :smashfrea

So basically, you got a good AWD launch on him and he ran you down.... Good kill

Well, I'll give you a "good kill", even if he was running you down.

If that guy has about $1500 and knows what to do with it then there'll be a VERY different outcome though, spinning tires or not. There are guys making WELL OVER 400 RWHP with less than $1500 invested.

Reading about how well the WRX's are running makes me wish that the 3 Subaru dealers I took my Infiniti to would've offered me a better trade---that's how I ended up with the Fucus. :) I'll tell ya, that 0% interest thing almost had me going back to Subaru!

At Bandi my AWD launch wins me plenty of races. Consider a Z06 which is good for mid 13s at Bandi and I run a 13.3 but the Z is running me down and traps about 6 more mph then me,does that not make it a good kill? 1/4 mile racing is about traction as much as it is about horsepower,it's a kill if I trip the lights first but if it's a race a bit past a 1/4 mile then I know the Vette will pass me but that shouldn't lessen somebody's kill.

I try to keep my racing at the strip cause the steet has too many variables even when done safely plus you have hard #s at the strip not a bunch of "could of's/would of's/should of's".

BTW- a stock 2003 Cobra runs high 13s at Bandi so I don't have anything to worry about........yet.:p

Don't diss on your Focus, the SVT will out handle alot of the sport compact cars on the market STOCK. If 1/4 mile is all that your concerned with then the SVT is the wrong car for you, but take that beast out to an Auto X and see how it handles. Also in Road and Track the Focus SVT easily beat the new Si, Tiberoun(6 speed), RSX, and a few other cars

ohshitshun- The guy probably didn't know how to drive the Cobra, because if you check out www.svtperformance.com there are plenty of stories of Cobra's "killing" AWD Porshe's and such. And since he did have temp tags on the car it's a pretty good guess he didn't know how to drive the car.

I was there trailing along in my hatch that night. THe AWD launch would eat the Cobra off the line and then it played catch up. Also ohshitshun is brand new to launching a AWD car and still has temp tags as well.

i don't at all doubt he beat him, but fact is the cobra is a much faster car, especially since he doesn't even a have a boost controller on the WRX yet......Oh well a kill is a kill........

lol, yeah till you get behind the wheel of a car with actual torque, then it becomes a whole other game when street racing. When I drove the camaro I got into it for a second and the back end of the car wanted to come around to the front. It's sick driving a car with real low end power.

yea no shit, when my second turbo spools in second at like 4500 rpmz my back end sometimes will find itself in the lane next to me lol! but its great aint it!

COntour: It's not that I'm dissing the Fucus, (<---I get a kick outta calling it that) but I'm not unrealistic either. I used to own a 2001 ZX3 S2 Edition and was leading HS for the winter series in early 2002---I never got to race it for the summer series. Now that I'm gonna be serious with the SVT this year, (running real autocross tires) I'm sure it'll do pretty good.

But which would you rather have: a WRX or an SVT Focus?? The WRX is even better in the snow, (trust me, I know). I was {---} close to getting one.

My lil ole Mustang is my 1/4 miler, so the SVTF has to get me from point A to point B.

Yeah I see your point, just couldn't tell if you were dissatisfied with the Focus or not. But yeah I would probably take a WRX over an SVT Focus, "the beauty of all wheel drive."
