Got quoted at $350 at PAC Motorsports to get an AEM CAI with a bypass valve installed. Is that a decent price?

fuck no it's not, I can install one for WAY cheaper than that. I'd install it for you for $50, but if you want to do it yourself, then it's free, and it's also how you learn.

yeah I thought it was a little high. I was thinkin how the fuck do all these high school kids get into this shit if its so damn expensive just to install an intake

What tools do you need to do this?

Installing an intake is easy. You really don't need much in the way of tools, a screwdriver and a 10mm socket should do it.

Just follow the instructions, you can't mess it up.

maybe if I'm feeling brave I'll try it tomorrow
what are the chances of totally screwing it up?

and do you need anything other than an ordinary jack to prop it up?

It's real easy!

man after reading these instructions:
http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fifth-intake/fifth-intake.shtml

I'm not so sure! I can see why HellifiedSH told me to take it to PAC.

My CAI was the first performance part I ever installed, the latest was a turbo. Its kinda of intimidating at first but its VERY easy. All you should need is a 10mm socket, flat head screwdriver, phillips screwdriver (for bumper), and a hack saw to make the cut for bypass. I did my cut for the bypass on a bandsaw so if you have access to somthing like that it even better. the best place for the bypass is an inch or two after the first bend where the pipe comes up from behind your bumper. If you have any more questions just ask, you might even be able to get somone to come help you

P.S. If you don't install it yourself don't let anyone here know, we'll all make fun of you

For your Lude thats the price of the CAI and install I beleive I paid 245.00 for my CAI and Bypass and labor was about 125.00. But I bought the CAI/Bypass off of the internet so I paid a little more in labor.. Call Manny on Saturday to clearify this absurd mistake..

I beleive you must cut in to the body within the engine bay also.
The only way I would work on a car is if its not mine..

the 350 did include the part itself, which they wanted $230 for. So I guess $120 is what the labor itself would cost. However if I bought it somewhere else for cheaper they'd charge me more for labor.

I talked to Manny earlier in the day and he said he'd call me back with a quote but never did.

Either way I think I'm gonna give this a shot. Maybe one of the guys from Team Elude will help me out.

I'll do it for a 6pack of fat tire. $350? It must take all of a few minutes... The shop who quoted you that must be hurting in a big way for business, or they've got a constantly lit crack pipe in the back room.

well keep in mind the install included the part itself so its not THAT bad a deal. And Hellified says they do a good job.

You'd rather pay 120 bucks over John's awesome price of a 6 pack? Crazy. Just take it apart, try to put it in, if you can't take it to somebody else. You'll be amazed how easy it is.

haha when did I say I'd rather pay it. I ordered it and I was gonna give it a shot. Maybe I'll get John to supervise. That way he can just sit back and enjoy his 6 pack :)

John have you done prelude intakes before? Its kind of a bitch, checkout the directions I posted earlier in this thread.

Sounds like you would've rather had them install it for you. Where are you from? I might wanna enjoy that 6 pack with John.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you need. Making a BBQ out of it sounds like a good plan too. We could go over a few things with you on how to take off the bumper and stuff like that.

Damn 120 dollars to install an intake is insane!! Hell that's almost as much as I sell my club18t cold air intakes for :). Honestly man I would help you install it for free. It's super easy to do.

Heh heh heh. No, I've not done a prelude intake, but an intake is an intake.

I still think you should just do it yourself - there's a great satisfaction in doing any work on your car.

looks like I'm probably gonna be doing it with a few other people as part of a meet for the new prelude group. Sort of like my initiation to import tuning :)

Not to mention the learning experience.
