Coming home from work last night I ran across a black volvo (looks like your moms car Brian) boxy type looking one but kinda long. Anyways the first light he kinda takes off fast so I decided to follow and test out what this cam can do. Well he didnt pull at all and we end up getting another light.
I launched for the first time in a very long time and he took off as well. I had a very good launch and we where side by side all the way till the top of 3rd where he pulled a bit (I was glued on his rear bumper) I couldn't talk to him to see if he even had anything done or if it was stock but it was a quick car, I gave him the thumbs up and left.
I wanna know what kinda car that was and what they have. Also looks like the ecu is settled in with the new mod cause it feels real nice in the top end :)

Nice run man! If it was like my mom's then it was an S70. I forgot the HP rating, but they are a 5 cylinder turbocharged engine. Pretty quick cars. I've taken out a few SI's and such in that thing.

Hmmm... someone else out there in a black Volvo causing trouble? :p
I think DnVr talked about getting a black 850 T5-R yesterday - maybe he was out seeing what his new grocery getter was capable of.
Glad to see some people are finally using their cars to their potential - usually I see soccer moms driving T5s with a golden retriever and 3 kids in the back!

Damn, lately ive been hearing about Volvos tearing up the streets. Crazy to think that mommas Volvo might have some power.
Well, at least im not worried about getting out run by one.

Volvos are pretty impressive, particularly considering how heavy they are.

-Dallas J just a k&n and a chip bumps output to over 300 hp. you shouldnt have any trouble at stoplights but watch out they can really get going from a roll

Well, with 14.8s at sea level I think anything under 15.5 is a tall order to fill but if you cheat and consider a K&N and a few other tweaks STOCK,then we might squeeze it closer to a Mustang GT.;)

If it was an S80 T6 they're a 2.9L twin turbo 6-cylinder with 268hp and 280 ft/lbs of torque. Car & Driver ran one 0-60 in 6.5 and through the 1/4 in 14.9@95 (presumably at sea level)
If it was a new S80 Anniversary edition it has 272 hp, 280 torque, and runs 0-60 in 6.3 and through the 1/4 in 14.6@95 (asl.)
They weigh close to 4000 pounds so I'm surprised you didn't leap ahead off the line while he was waiting for his turbos to spool. Nice job only falling behind by a few feet by the top of third though! As DnVr said they're really quick on the top end - I believe they're faster than a C5 Corvette from 60-100.

850 T5Rs run mid to low 14s up here. They have more power than the 850R. My friend Joe has a Volvo 850R and ran a high 14 up here stock. So i think mid to low 14s are realistic up here. :)

I'll believe it when I see it plus we can G*Tech it any time and at least get an idea. I really doubt they will run down a Vette or an SS Camaro at Bandi in stock trim. I still say 15.7s at best but I'll be happy to be proven wrong and I hope DnVr does it.

I read up on some Volvo sites and the 850R ran 14..6s-9s,well maybe those driver's suck but I didn't read anywhere that they ran mid 13s and they would have to that to hit a low 14 up here.
Ryan, you belong to that Volvo board, don't they have any solid #s on that site?

I figure in about a .8 sec altitude loss on turbo cars which could mean the car could possibly hit a high 14 to mid 15 up here, well gtech the fucker on the way home from the dealership, im dying to get on it anyway:cool:

I almost raced an 850 today, but I don't think it was an R. Anyways, too much traffic and not enough stoplights where we were both side by side. Oh, I almost raced an ancient Corvette too, like a 2nd or 3rd gen, but it was an old guy and I was like, nah, fuck it, let him think he's bad :D But I did let him hear the blower as I drove by when he got in the turn lane.

Paul, the T5R is different than the 850R. T5R has somethin likee 280hp stock trim while the 850R has 240. I think the 850R has a stock T5 turbo'd motor (which was their big engine back then) and the T5R had a beefed up T5?

No, all 850R's have the same t5 motor. the manual has 252 hp and the auto 240 stock. the motor your thinking of is the t6 which is a twin turbo 6 found in the new s80. does your friend with the volvo have any mods?
