Well today on the highway in my friends gsr crusin at about a hundred he decides he needs to go faster so he downshifts to 2nd missing 4th. For some reason i was looking at the stock tach and saw it just bury it self way past 9500rpm. He hit the clutch and some how the motor is still running. Later on we took the car to the store and noticed that it was making kind of a sputtering sound. It seems to go away a little once it warms up. Then the check engine light came on. He says it feels fine. What could be wrong with it.

dont drive it, that will only increase the damage already caused
good luck that can be devistating to an engine!

does the car still have the same power it did before? Does VTEC still kick? I agree with 92CX tho, i think he did bend some valves.
Haha. If he can't even shift correctly, what business does he have going 100+mph? On a more helpful note, he most likely bent some valves.

I totally agree with Stu. Plus, how in the hell do you miss 4th and into 2nd? I guess they let anybody drive a car nowadays.
I've gone from third to second at the top of third before when I first got my GSR, and I didn't break anything. Also, when I was learning how to drive a manual, I took my friends Civic from fifth to second on the highway, but I was only doing like 65-70. She wasn't very happy.

downshifting at 100 into second
Basically it's like you having sex and then someone coming in and kicking you in the balls. You will suffer...
The engine suffered like that, but with more permanent damage....
Now that you know the feeling the engine had - I suggest you check out most everything before he drives it around more.

What the hell were was he thinking? I think he should park the car in his garge and spen a whole sunday inspecting it before he decied to take his car "joy riding" again.

Or actually have to pay for the damage rather than have mommy and daddy pay for his mistake.
