Is it possible to turbo a 2002 WRX 2.5RS? If so, what solutions are available?

The 2.5RS is not a WRX. It is possible to turbo it. We had a 99 that was worked on by JC sports. (not sure where that is) That thing pulled like a BEAST on low end, (ask Viloator) but it ran out of steam on the top.

Subaru calls it a 2.5RS sedan... yet it has the same body as a WRX. I want to get a Subaru because of the AWD out here, but not sure if I wanna buy a turbo one right away because of cost and insurance. So I wanted to know if there was a way to add turbo to it later on. :)
LoL, reminds me of one night me and a bunch of friends were out goin' east bound on 120th after just passing Fedral there's that hill that's pretty steep, well a 2.5 RS (Blue) pulls out of that neighborhood in there and we passed him and the muther fucker was wearing a helmit! Funniest shit in the world, so he caught back up to our line and I think it was Bryan... He revved on him a couple of times and the guy didn't do anything so Nick threw a thumbs down out the window and that muther fucker took off like a bat out of hell... Seriously probably did 50 to 80 in like 3 seconds or less, he then got caught at the light at the over pass over I-25 and I pulled up next to him and we were kind of laughin' and stuff and he hung his head (And helmit) out the window and was yellin' like a mad man, "Are you laughin' at the 400 horsepower helmit, yeah yeah your friends back there didn't seem to like it they gave me the thumbs down (Leans back to look at Bry's ride) HEY FUCK YOU BUDDY!" We were all still laughin' and shit so we told him to pull into that albertsons right there at washington and 120th and he went in and poped his hood, sure as shit, BIG fuckin' turbo on a 2.5RS and I can't remember what he said he was boostin' for the life of me but I remember adding it up and it was between 450 and 500 HP... When he left albertsons he spun all 4 tires all the way thru second and then had to slam on the brakes to stop at the light :D He said the helmit was just for fun to see if he could get a laugh out of ppl and that he was just out to have a good time...
Oh and on a second note, the new WRX '04 is a 2.5 Turbo, it's got 300 hp/300 trq stock... I'm sure you'll find a good kit for it but it might take some lookin' and some major $$ good luck

LOL, that's great man. :D I won't have nearly enough cash for a 2004. I am just asking because there are two models with same style body: the WRX and the 2.5RS (which looks just like the WRX but apparently isn't called that). Go to www.subaru.com and click on Impreza - the two bottom models.

well the 2.5rs isn't called a wrx cause it has a completely different engine. It is a Subaru Impreza..............2.5rs and WRX are the different designations. Like honda civic DX, LX, etc.

Ok. So is it possible to turbo the new-looking 2.5RS (the one that has the WRX body)? If so, any specific links?
I'll take a look around for you, I think CTCmotorsports did it, but not sure what their personal link is, and they're out of Texas but if they can't do it, I think it might be worth hitting up Mike at BoostHard, from what I've herd, there's no job to hard for Mike :D

Ok, cool. I prolly won't get one until next year... and even then, it may just be better for me to buy the one with the stock turbo? Because hopefully with the new coming out prices will drop.

hey,
you might want to check out www.nasioc.com
it is the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club (whew... [pant pant])
there are a lot of guys on there who have put turbos on their previous generation 2.5RSs and i'm sure if there is anywhere to go to find out about putting a turbo on a new one, thats the place to do it.
just a warning... there are some real a$$holes on that site, but dont sweat it, you'll get your answers there.

You can find everything you need to know over there. If I was you I would just go for the WRX because you'll save money over time. My 2 cents

Hey man, I wasn't trying to bust your balls or anything. You do have a few things to factor though. If you get a WRX, insurance is going to be high. If you get a 2.5RS, it is cheaper and insurance is cheaper too. BUT, if you turbo the 2.5, you may have a few issues to deal with. Tranny might not handle all the extra power, car might heat up, little things like that.

I would just buy a WRX and not have any issues with turboing a regular 2.5 later on.

Or buy an old GL and a junked WRX. Then replace the drivetrain in the GL, have a WRX with GL insurance rates...
That's what I've always wanted to do, but it wouldn't look like a WRX. It would be a serious sleeper though :D

Insurance would not be high on a Subaru period because it's AWD and a family sedan. I've already checked insurance prices on them and they are cheaper than my GSR...

Even with the turbo? I'll have to call and ask.. although the way things are looking I may not have the funds for one. :(

actually the insurance on the WRX is pretty high.... even though i'm sure there are plenty of cars that are worse. when i was calling around looking for rates i'd tell them what car, and after a short pause they would say 'this is the turbocharged version?'
its a sedan, but its a sedan that does 0-60 in 5.4 seconds, and insurance companies are well aware of that...

FYI guys, the 2.5RS and the WRX use the same 5 speed tranny (forester/Outback as well) I already stripeed 2nd gear on my WRX with 27k on it, I now have a forester tranny.. The Automatic on the other hand has been rated to 450lbft so do the hp #s from there, if you are shooting for big hp, get the auto and have the TC converted to a higher stall.
