We'll see, I think I will just put a K&N on it and leave it reliable.
I did find a chip for it though that supposedly produces 275 hp and 280 torque. thats an extra 35 hp and 55 ft lbs. for 700$
maybe someday....?

Why did you decide to get a different car? Tired of the problems with the current car?

1. as you said problems. 1 after another after another thats what dsming is all about, sure the cars fast and rapes everything I run into on the street, not to cool though when its always broken on the sunny days.
2. I am a parent and need something 4 door that I can count on.
I found only one acceleration time so far
0-62 in 6.6 seconds stock, no quarter time though.
still pretty quick for a sleeper grocery getter.

Nice car but if you have the means I would HIGHLY suggest the S60R ;). 300hp and 295-300tq stock I believe :D.

If i't s 6.6 0-60 then it's maybe a 15.3 car at sea level but I did some reasearch on the net and I've read of some people hitting 0-60 in 6.1 seconds so maybe a 14.8 in the 1/4 mile so up here it should bust off a 15.8 or so in stock trim.

I was reading on volvo's site today, if anyone is killed in one volvo pays the family 250K. this is a company that really stands behind thier cars.
I'd rather stand behind a car than in front of one. I love my girlfriend's Saab.

I ran a volvo similar and it ran a 15.85, I think all he had was a boost controller, pretty sick though, he powder coated the stock wheels black. Good luck getting you volvo...just hope it doesnt break, they arent cheap.

You'll learn to love the blank stares people give you when you blow them away in a VOLVO! These cars aren't great at 0-60 because of the lack of traction and the turbo lag off the line, but once they're rolling they really fly. From 30 to 150 they pull with an incredible hydraulic thrust.
I don't think you'll have any trouble hitting the 15s when you look at the kind of runs the VW 1.8Ts are pulling in stock form. Just make sure the car doesn't have any vacuum leaks - they're notorious for robbing power from older T5s. They're also really sensitive to temperature - on a cool night you'll run at least half a second quicker than on a muggy night.
Hope you decide to buy it - you'll love the unbeatable combination of performance/safety/comfort and the inherent sleeper nature of these cars.

ask around Im all about sleeperism, My dsm looked stock even had the non turbo wheels yet pulled 13 sec et's at 98 mph up here.
I think I'll probably leave the volvo near stock for a while and restore the very few things that need done on the car ie; brakes , off track window and throw a K&N on it.
Q's for you??? is chipping the way to go with a T5 R?
I did some searching and found a few different chips. one I found claimed to punch output to 305 hp. another claimed 295.
Q. do the chips modify fuel system function to accommodate the increased boost?
Q. any chips that people have had good luck with that you know of?

The ECUs that people seem to have good luck with are iPd, (http://www.ipdusa.com) SpeedTuning, and Upsolute. I've heard nothing but complaints about Eastern Aerospace (http://www.easternaerospace.com/)
I believe most of the ECUs do modify fuel maps as well as boost pressure, but you probably want to verify that with the particular manufacturer before you decide on one.
If you want to boost your performance cheaply you can throw on a Dawes Devices MBC (http://www.DawesDevices.com) You just have to be careful how much you crank up the boost because if you end up running too lean you can get in line for an expensive engine rebuild.
Check out VolvoSpeed's forums (http://www.volvospeed.com/vs_forum) for a lot more information about tuning FWD Volvos.
Hope this helps, and I hope you're enjoying your new ride!

Yep the volvos are solid cars thats for sure. But I have to say if there is a car that comes close its got to be a vw. My jetta is pretty damn safe thats for sure.

Yes the Jettas are very safe cars. I doubt most of us will ever have to use their safety features, that is why I dont even concern myself with that kind of stuff. But in the event that I do get in an accident I will feel safe with all 8 of my airbags.....

Getting hit at high speed by anything much bigger then you (since we're in Colorado odds are it will be an SUV) then all the safety stuff might just go out the window, there are no guarantees when you're in a wreck.
I try to just drive safe and don't really worry about it but being in a Volvo might be the difference of being dead and being like Christopher Reeves. Hard choice to think about.

Yes Hi i was interested in getting a volvo wagon and was wondering which one would be the fastest with the best handling? The t5r come with around 250 hp but only can be bought with front wheel drive right? But the v70 comes with around 200 hp but with all wheel drive. Just wanted to know which would be the better one
thanks
