I am definetly going to go turbo on my civic and while I do the engine swap I would just replace the clutch. Which of these clutchs feels more like stock, can handle 8psi or more, and last longer. Please give me opinions and what you guys are using. Thanks.

clutchmasters = stock pedal feel
act = leg workout

i'd say go with the clutchmaster stage 3

I've no experience with clutchmasters, but an old DSM pal had pretty bad times with a few of them. I used ACT 2600s on my old DSM with very good results.

With FWD the CM is probably good and I've heard good things with them on Hondas but with my AWD I'll stick with ACT 2600.

I've heard good things about CM stage 3 and Exedy. Exedy is a lot cheaper than a CM so I ended up with an Exedy racing clutch. Sorry, I haven't put it in yet so I can't tell you first hand how the Exedy clutch feels.

Exedy is a great clutch. Got mine for $240 and it just as good as anything else and im runnin turbo. They are huge in japan and are oem equipment on many japanese cars. Also they are not rebuilds of stock clutches like many others. Dont dismiss them just because they dont have a cool website.

I had a clutchmasters in my boosted SI and it was a great clutch. Probably one of the best out there you can get for Hondas.

How does the holding capacity on the Stage 3 compare to that of the Exedy.

I boost about up to 9psi and the exedy has no problems at all holding the power. Couldn't tell you about the CM.

Does the Exedy feel like a stock clutch?

Just a tad bit stiffer than the whimpy stock one :) I think it feels just right.

Is that the one you sold me Shane? :p

You were pushing 400+ hp, so that doesn't surprise me...

Talked with Manny from PAC and he said that Exedy could'nt hold much more than stock and that a CM Stage 1 would be good for 8psi. Is this pretty much true?

there are 2 types of Exedy clutchs. Stock replacements and the "racing" type.

What is the holding capacity on the "race" clutch?

i read on a Clutchcityonline auction on ebay. it was 275-300 bhp.

you can look up your application http://www.clutchcityonline.com/main.php?page=exedy.htm

Mine was a 32% increased capacity

Do lightened flywheels help much with turbos? Do you have any problems with daily driving?

i heard that it might spool a little quicker but my friend Marshall told me that you loose torque with a lightened flywheel. He told me if i was gonna go boost, to just lighten my stock one a little bit...maybe to 14lbs or so, which i did and i revs a lot better...i just dont have boost yet. :D

ACT all the way. You could cheap out and get a exedy but why??? You get what you pay for ya know?

The reason that people don't like to use lightened flywheels with turbo is because the revs drop much faster than a heavier one. So all your shifts have to be fast to compensate for it. Well, if you're racing.

There's a lot of energy stored in the flyweight mass, and removing some of that mass loses the energy. Launching an AWD is miserable with a really light flywheel, and I found that launching my supra (stock flywheel 34 lbs, aftermarket 13 lbs) I was NEVER able to get better than a 1.9 after the flywheel swap.

But, the car revved like a chainsaw with the lightweight part, and it pulled, well, quite hard. :)

Like turbochargers, it's a game of tradeoffs.

I have been building cars for 15 years. I have nevevr seen a better clutch than act. As for the price i jut picked up a stage2 and the 8lb flywheel for 338.00. You probaly cant get that price but for the product i think you should suck it up and pay a few bucks more and put the right part on your car.
