Here are a couple videos I did while I put on my Injen CAI. The hardest part was figuring out how to take off the bumper cover. The instructions were a little misleading because I think that Injen got a copy of the Nissan bumper install picture and used that as part of their instructions on how to take off the front end which was a little misleading because I found that I only had to take off the bumper cover, not the actual bumper itself. The other thing that I wanted to point out is that the Injen heat shield goes on top of the factory one. I wasn't sure about that during the install. Due to the weather and the crappy streets, I haven't really got a chance to really open it up. Also, I am not sure how to reset the ECU. It isn't just a matter of taking off the negative battery terminal. Resetting the ECU properly is about as involved as a launch sequence for a NASA space craft. There are many steps involved into getting the ECU in diagnostic mode. I spoke with the master technician at Nissan here in town and they told me to bring my car in after I get the CAI and my exhaust installed and they will properly reset the ECU.

Anyway, here are the vids.

Taking off the bumper cover (http://ps.usa.net/~dgiadone/caiinstall1.mpg) -- I laughed after I saw this because I sounded like I was in shock of seeing my bumper cover off for the first time :)

The finished product (http://ps.usa.net/~dgiadone/injencaiinstall.mpg) -- Sorry about the lighting. This was in my garage that isn't that well lit.

Here's a still pic:

It is more aggressive sounding now. I really can't tell much of a difference performance wise. Other 350z's that have dynos with the Injen CAI only get about 4 HP gain which isn't much, really, but this N/A car needs all the help it can get at this altitude......until I get the twin turbo....muahahahah

It is silver -- the flash on the camera kind of makes it look different than what it looks like in person.

Is it the same colour as the car?

If you leave the negative terminal of the battery disconected overnight it should reset the ecu, unless it is drastically different then the maxima ecu which I highly doubt.

I spoke with the master technician at Nissan and you wouldn't believe the shit you have to go through to properly reset the ECU. Some shit like turn the ignition to the ON position, then go WOT 5 times in 5 seconds, then wait seven seconds, then hold the throttle down again WOT for 7 seconds, repeat 3 times, and a whole bunch of other shit. Eventually you'll get the engine in diagonostic mode and then you have to perform some more steps.

To help anyone else that is looking to do the same mod on a Z. I know I appreciate when other people do the same as many of the vids give you a "preview". If you don't like then don't watch! :)

hrmm..I think I'd get the intake pipe painted a little closer to the color of the car..but otherwise thats pretty damn cool. I've never really been in a car (before mine) that you could "feel" the difference after installing a CAI. That freaking pipe makes my car sound BADASS at WOT and you can definately, without a doubt..feel a healthy power increase. Of course..if the CAI is proven to make 18.6hp on a freaking dyno..guess you cant ignore that. :)

There was no reason in having two videos...a picture would have been fine. He was like "Here is the CAI installed". Some sounds would have been better...worthless video. It like posting a video of your new wheels sitting in your garage, A pic would be fine. BTW I have been on the board for a long time...just never see the point in posting. Posts like this make me why I never did before.

Man, you are cracking me up. This is a forum for people to discuss their rides, performance mods, etc, hence the post and vids. No one is forcing you to view the thread. If you don't want to read it, then don't! It is as simple as that! Try to be a little more open minded -- just because YOU aren't interested, doesn't mean that no one else is either.

No No No....don't get me wrong..I am very interested in this. I think you made a very good choice in you r car...and think its cool that you got an Intake for it. But on the other hand its just an Intake and those videos didnt show any thing that a picture wouldnt have....Like I said before...I think it would have been better if you started it up and had some good sound of your intake..but then again its your post and not mine. :) Nice car...Is it a Track model?

I keep getting an error on your bumper removal video. Can you send it to me via email (desgnthis@mindspring.com)?? I have to replace my bumper because tire tread cracked and bent the bottom plastic bar at 85mph. How long did it take you? Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks

Thanks for the install info Inferno. My dad just bought a 350z and I have been trying to persaude him to mod it. I like the sound of the stock 350z, but with an intake it sounds bitchin.

How long did it take you to install that CAI? I heard a bunch of pussies on the Z boards were complaining it took for ever and they spent three hours on it. I did Mudd's in 45 minutes. The next one will probably only take about 30 minutes.
