View Full Version : Raced the 1.8t again

I see this guy all the time after I get out at work. Last time we meet he smoked me pretty good 2-3 cars by 3rd gear. Well that was when I had my CEL problems. I fixed those and now the car felt better but I couldnt really tell or measure it against anything. Last night I got my chance, he took of while in front of me so I decided to drop it and follow, well to my surprise I was pacing with him pretty good over 100mph.

Then we get a light, we both just take off normally then punch it. He pretty much gets a car ahead of me off the start but it stayed about a car lenght behind till the top of 3rd...rather than 3 car lenghts :) All he says he has done is a chip. I think he is a friend of someone on this borad. He has the modoptions sticker on the side and it's a white Jetta.

I will be adding a CTR intake cam and a new muffler once my return gets here and then it will hit the dyno...yeah yeah no boost yet but I need to take care of some debt before I blow it on the car again.

Yeah, stock 1.8t's are kinda bs. My friend had one and I could beat him 50% of the time with my accord. But now he has a P Chip, BOV, new trubo, down pipe, and a few other things and he spanks people left and right. My friend in his GSR with CAI/H/EX can't keep up with him.

Neuspeed doesn't make a p-chip for an upgraded turbo.

Steve, I wonder if this is the guy that you raced, then he claimed he had an upgraded turbo....lol

a stock 1.8t should beat a gsr with those mods....at least at this altitude

dnvr, where you cruising around 104th last night? I saw an older black volvo and it tried to play with my civic(I got lazy and didnt race).

Actually I am the guy. I have a chip (APR), Half a cai (the other half got stolen at a car show), and a forge 007. She is quick. Yet I usually dont take her as far as I can. I always race you when Im leaving work.

Yes your civic is doin pretty well. I think Im going to do my turbo back exhaust soon. That should help the performance of the car a little. I also found a heck of a deal on a new turbo and manifold. Both for about 700. Plus a bosst controller. I should be fine at about a level 1 - 1.1 bar. Ill also be looking into swapping out the injectors for slightly larger ones. My goal is only around 300 hp.

Either way its always fun to give someone a run. I guess next time Ill try taking her up to 7100 instead of 5600 while racing you, Never hurts to experiment.

Oh I forgot, she is a 2001 VW Jetta Wolfy AWW. so yeah I had no issues with gsr's when I was stock.

Yeah before my civic was in limp mode with all these check engine codes (knock sensor, 02). I was racing you with a few problems that finally got corrected. If I see you again we should go from a launch, even though you would beat me but it's all good. I just wanna see how much a difference the cam made.

5600 :D had to rub it in a little didn't you! I wish I was pushing double digit boost levels...

Hope to see ya after work again ;) Always get home faster that way...

Also I have a B16 not a GSR motor if that is what you where refering too in the last post...

me thinks his civic is doing pretty damn good to even stay close to a boosted car with a little more engine,especially since he has no boost.

i know you had problems trying out a supercharger,but it's worth the effort
i want to try a little experiment with my hatchie this summer
try supercharger/turbo combo
i need to build the engine up more first

I always take my Jetta up to 7100 when I am racing someone. IT really does put you back in the powerband better after a shift. If I see you around we will have to run man, I drive a white AWP 1.8T Jetta. I have a Forge 007, CAI, APR chip and ATP 3 inch DP. Ted just race me:D But remind me to shut off my traction control, I always forget.:) What kind of exhaust you thinking of going with? My next upgrades are a front mount and upgraded turbo.

Uncertain as to the company yet. I want a 3" turbo back. I just wannt it in place for when I actually upgrade the turbo..

Im going to price my exhaust both custom made and online order. weigh goods and bads. then eventually buy it. Just havent had time. I do a lot of coding recently. So that equates to me having little time
