took the hatch into get the emissions done today and it failed!!!

It failed the CO test, the reading was 23.857, the legal limit is 20.
That's the only thing it failed on.
Do you guys have any suggestions or what might get rid of this?
I need to get this done asap.
The guy said this happens when it's rich. I have a FPR for my other car, do you think i should just swap it over and lean it out? Maybe a bad o2 sensor?
it's on an 88 d15 motor.

TIA

either the FPR and/or a V-AFC will help lean it out a bit.

shit, forgot it's dual point injection, so no fuel rail for the fpr =(
i'm not gonna buy an afc to get it to pass hehe

ok, i'm gonna try a new o2, cause those arn't too bad, and i think i have an extra std header (with the cats built in) around here.
I think if i throw both of those on i should be ok.

any ideas?

I think you can get a bottle of some junk to put in the car (got to an autoparts store), and then fill up your tank. Make sure she is nice and warm before you take it in.

It is running too rich if it fails CO. A few things that typically fail on those is 02 sensor, TW sensor and sometimes the injectors leak a little. Make sure when you take it to test it rape the shit out of it and get the cat good and hot.

right on guys.
Plan so far is to:
1. replace o2 sensor
2. put std model (with cat built in) manifold back on. For some reason i took this off one time and swapped it out for a dx.
3. Buy some bullshit, "promise you'll pass" stuff from the autoparts store
4. drive the shit out of it on the way there.

hehe, i'll let you guys know wednesday if that worked or not.

My car was running waaaaay to rich so i got a different ECU from a 92-95 DX OBD1 and it passed fine. :D

just go to an ace hardware and get it. It even says on the can that it can be added to fuel. hehe, when I did mine, it cut the emissions on the co almost in half, LOL!

Go to King Soopers and get a bottle of 99% Isopropanol Alcohol, cost you a dollar. Put it in on an almost empty tank, fill up with $5 of 91 or higher.....rod the piss out of it and go get it tested. I have used this recipe on a dozen cars and they all pass blowing 00000s for every test point, NO BULLSHIT!

Your kidding?
i was just thinking about trying that yesterday when i had an empty tank. But I got busy and couldn't go. On the way to work today i filled up!!
hehe.
Maybe drain it out into a jug, then refill after i pass? hahaha.

so i was pretty psyched to show up today and pass, but they had other plans for me.
For some reason today the guy testing my car couldn't handle it on the rollers, even though just monday some other guy did just fine.
They told me i need to get an alignment and come back haha.
So we'll have to wait till tuesday for results.
If you want i can scan in the before and after results, pass or fail so we'll all have solid proof.

Yeah solid proof is always good.

Those guys are the biggest bunch of fucktards on the planet. They failed my old civc once for no check engine light (couldnt see it well because of my gauges) so I had to show it to them. Then they failed it again because the O2 wasnt int he stock location. I had to talk tot he manager and explain Colorado Emissions law to him. I am Colorado licenced emissions repair mechanic for shits sake.

Tobi, can you pass emmissions with a check engine light on?

i took a car in once and they failed it for not having enough power. the inspector comes to me and says "every time i try to start out it just dies". so i looked at my poor Talon TSI with its front wheels on the rollers and the back wheels on the pavement and said " thats cause it is all wheel drive you idiot". he then says "oh, well there supposed to have stickers that say all wheel drive"

I pointed out the guy that had tested it just fine two days ago, he suggest if i wanted to leave and come back and get in his line i could. But by this time it was already like 4:15.
I would also like to point out the fact that 15 minutes was spent looking for the obdII hookup cable.
remember, this is an 88...

I'm sure it's not all the workers fault, they're probably just trained to get cars in and out, not know the entire story on every car. I just don't understand why one guy could test the car fine and the other couldn't.
Oh well, it needed an alignment anyways heh.

Okay, I really don't like CoDSM, so Im really hoping to get in with everyone here. Heres my situation, I have a 92 Mistu Galant VR4. New motor, new everything. Now I am going to put on about 1,200 miles on the new motor/clutch, everythings new really, before I boost it and WOT. How am I supposed to get a title and in 20 days break in the motor and get to the emissions place so they can rev up the rpms and try to pass emissions?. Second issue is that I have a 3" turbo tip mandrel exhaust with no cat and really no muffler (just a 6"mandrel bend out then back to 3") with a cf tip. Does anyone work or know somone that works at one of these stations that can help me in "any" way? My car is registerd in fort collins, one because insurance is cheaper and two the emissions test stations are easier to pass. Anyone help? I got alot of extra parts and cash. Kyle

What all did you do to get it to pass?

As far as putting things like rubbing alcohol/will pass gunk from auto parts store/etc in the tank... even if it does work, what does it to to your motor? Will it increase the risk of detonation or anything like that? Would this be something I would need to fear boosting on until the tank has been passed?

Just gotta read, Im looking for help or someone that knows a person at an emission station that wants to get hooked up or get money.

I think your best bet is to put on a stock exhaust with a cat to get through the test. Even IF you found someone to "overlook" the missing cat, you would probably not pass the emissions part of the test (because you are missing a cat).
