I've been laughing for about two hours now about this. Me and Sam went to go pick up his wife's car from her work, and on the way back, we were driving next to some new eclipse with a HUGE wing and some bling wheels. We stopped at a light next to him. I was like please race him!!
so Sam gets a crappy launch, but get's even with the dude, and actually pulls ahead for a second. I was laughing so hard I was crying.
the reason why I've been laughing, is that his wife's car is a base level Hyundai elantra!!!!!!!!:D :D :D :rofl: :rofl:

At IDRC last year, the fastest V6 Eclipse i saw ran a low 17, i wouldnt consider than good :( Those bastards need to redesign it like a "futuristic 1st Gen" and stick the 4G63 back in it, now that would be nice :)

I guess it depends on your definition of fast. I would hardly consider a 17 second car "fast". Nor would I consider a 16 or 15 second car "fast" either ;)

A 15 second car at Bandi IMO is starting to scoot but I don't think it's really that fast,once you hit a 14 then you're starting to to get there.

Well, if he can tell that story, then I guess I can say that I beat some Durango last night in my slow car. I think he really was trying to race the Saab though.

Do the Spyders have more power? I thought it was jsut the convertible version. And usually convertibles are heavier.

Spyders are slower than the coupes. Convertable top adds tons of weight. If mitsubishi redesigned the eclipse and stuck the 4G63 back in it, i think it would sell a whole lot faster than the shitty V6 one. Probably will never happen, but we can all wish right?

The problem is Mitsubishi isn't having a problem selling them. They went with the current redesign because people weren't buying the turbo cars. Out of all the last two years of the Eclipse,only 15% sold were turbos and only half of that were AWD plus remember that Mitsu had some issues with the 2nd gen 4G63 which became very prone to crankwalk especially on modded cars.
Maybe Mitsu pulled the plug on the turbo Eclipses too soon as seeing that America is turbo hungry again but that's why Mitsu brought over the EVO. I have heard that AWD might make it's way back into the 3rd gens and maybe a supercharger but only time will tell.

The new V6 eclipses really suck. I've beaten three of them, and I've often wondered if I could get out of my car and beat them on foot. My car is by no means that fast, but I can easily get three or four car lengths on them. I could think of thousands of better ways to spend $28,000-$30,000 then to spend it on an eclipse GTS.

Using reason and logic, I would think that a drop top would weigh a lot less then a Hardtop.
How can it weigh more?
I have been told that hard tops were faster then drop tops, but I thought that was due to the stiffer suspension.

Wagon: When you take the roof off of a car, you loose all of the rigidity that having a metal roof provides. So now, you have to beef up the subframe to supplement the increased chasis flex. This beef up however, weighs more than just having a hard top in the first place. Hard top are faster around the track because they are stiffer, and they are faster in general because of areodynamics. Also, where have you been?

hey you have all been talkin about the gay auto 4banger 3g eclipse's i have a 2g awd and my co worker has a 2000 which is a 3g which is a 5 speed v6 that he ran 15.3 BONE stock the new 4 bangers run 17's all day he only has intake and exhaust and a shifter and is runnin a 14.8 now so there not bad considering i rode in his car and it still had some pep up around 155 which my awd couldnt handle but i shure do kill him in 1/4

Umm there is absolutely no way in hell a 3rd gen eclipse is that fast, I don't care what model it is.
I don't know if you figured it out yet, but:
1) We WERE (were becuase this is an old thread) talking about the V6 3rd Gen.
2) We are all in Colorado and our track is 6,000ft, which generally causes N/A cars to loose at least a sec in the 1/4 mile.

3rd-gen Eclipses are oogly as shit. The only reason they sold any at all, was that stupid commercial with the equally stupid song that ran like seven trillion times this last couple years...
