History: bought new in 94. Civic DX hatchback AT. Whole new ignition system about a year ago. The car is back home in Houston. I believe the car has around 120K miles. Has been well maintained.

For the past few months, the car has had some problems starting the engine. It would crank fine, but it would never catch or if it did it wouldn't hold an idle and die. This is more prone to happen when there is less than a 1/4 tank of fuel left. My dad thought the fuel injectors may be dirt so he put some fuel injector cleaner in and the car worked good for the entire tank. But since they filled up the car has been acting up although not as bad as before.

Now the car has stalled a few times while driving down the road. Each time the car stalled while driving it fired up like normal. The CEL never comes on (or the bulb may be burned out)

I've also noticed that the car seems to want to go forward rapidly before the brakes are fully (or even half way) released. And also when you stop it feels like the car is still being pushed forward while you are applying the brakes.

What could this be?

My ideas
1.) Transmission. For some reason the tranny may be getting 'jammed' and this causes the engine to stall or not start.
2.) Fuel Injectors? I just replaced the fuel filter during winter break first time in 120K miles.
3.) Engine is just TOO old.

Thanks for your help. I'll try to reply to questions you have as fast as I can.

I'd check ignition components like plugs, wires, distributor as well.

i also replaced the plugs when i did the fuel filter. but it just got a whole new ignition not too long ago.

I think they are going to take it to a mechanic and see what he says.

Any other ideas?

Distributor cap and rotor if you haven't changed them. That will make it run better period along with some wires.

You said it was auto check to see if a vacume line fell off or you may have disconnected when you did the prior work that could cause both problems

ok thanks.

Could the vacuum line just be loose? Because when the problem started it was very random. Now it occurs more frequently.

if your loosing vacume it would run just like your saying. Have you checked the fuel pump?

I could hear the pump turn on when the key is in the ON position (II). Whether or not the pump is going out when they are driving, I'm not sure.
