I am so excited!!! I bought a 91 AWD TSI today!!!:gapteeth:

I am picking it up tomorrow after school because he was taking out his CD player in it.

I have about $2,500 left over to put into and all and I wanted to know what you think I should do with it. I am going to spend some of it on stuff like a stereo, radar detector, ect... So what are some good first mods for it?

And another thing, the hood's paint has started to fade and chip away, I know it wont cost that much to fix that but how much would it cost to paint the whole car...the color isn't that bad but who wouldn't mind a brand new white or silver coat of paint?

as far as mods go add 1 thing at a time. with a dsm adding the right mods in the right order is key. start with free mods, k&n and maintenance then add an exhaust system boost controller and guage. all you will ever need is a hallman mbc it costs 50$
start THINKING clutch your gonna need one soon trust that!
a few things that are cheap that really make a difference imo are good plugs and wires the stock ones are ngk bpr6es you want to pick up ngk bpr7es and accell plug wires.

Does anyone know how to replace a timing belt in a 2gen Eclipse (RS)? My g/f's car needs the T belt replaced.

4g63 Timing belt is easy, a 420a timing belt is not. The only hard part about it is the crank pulley/harmonic balancer. With out the proper tool its extremely tough to get off. Getting it back on is just an issue of throwing it in the oven for 30 min to expand it and taping it back on.. Thats how i did the UDP for my R/T.

With 2500 to spend on mods, you can easily run 12s. Well, maybe. That car has the 3bolt rear end & small axles...

If i were to spend 2500 on just go fast goodies it would be like this...

-Used 20g or new 16g
-Custom 3" exhaust
-IC piping and intake
-Guages
-Fuel pump
-afc
-logger
-MBC
-550s
-Timing belt(if it has a lot of miles)

If I had that car I would scour the junk yards for a 4bolt rear.

sure you can be very fast for 2500$, what these guys are failing to add is when you add that much power to a car that drastically especially a 12 year old car be prepared to spend atleast that fixing shit thats going to break! trust me shits gonna break.:smashfrea

I was looking around for a '92 but there hasn't been one in the paper for at least 2 weeks so I just decided to go look at the 91's. Sure I don't get the 7 bolt...but hey my headlights kick ass.

The person who owned this before hand took REALLY good care and records on it. I have everything from oil changes to replaced windshield wipers. All of the belts were replaced to sell it and it is right at 100,000 miles.

IM not gonna spend all of the money on "fast stuff" This is going to be more a daily driver than a moded out super dsm....thing.....yea, but the stock stereo sucks so that's gotta go, need a radar detector (anybody recommend one, looking to spend $100-$200) paint the hood, touch up paint for a couple spots, trunk hydraulic things, and anything else that I might find.

I don't plan on doing much right now but this is what I am thinking:

3" 2-Piece Stainless O2 Eliminator Downpipe
boost gauge and pod
K&N Air Filter
high flow cat

Do you think any of that is curdy or stupid whatever? I want input.

And thanks DnVr for talking me out of FWD, I am MUCH happier:D

I just looked at that site...a 7 second talon:eek: looks cool tho.

The site I have been looking at lately is extreme turbo, do you know if they are any good?

Spend $40-50 on a test pipe instead of the cat and just keep the stock cat around for when you need to pass emmissions, buy a MBC instead.
Also do some research on the O2 eliminator DP as Dnvr said that some have fitment problems and sometimes you have to remove them to replace the oil filter.

On the radar detector- Valentine One is the only way to fly. Or at least that's what I would get if I had money. Look on e-bay, theres a lot of them on there and some are half price of a new one.
Congradulations on the car. You're going to have a blast with it.

Escort makes awesome radar detectors at a reasonable price.

Ok, it sounds like you go the perfect car. '91's rule! BTW 7 bolts kind of suck don't ya know. Your '91 has bigger rods for a start...

Given your situation and your comments I'll give you the straight-up lowdown on your DSM.

Stereo - spend $500-600 on it for now. Be happy.
Radar detector - Spend $90 on it at Target, I have a Whistler that I bought at Target for $70 over six years ago and I've never gotten a ticket since then. <knock on wood> Be happy.

That's $700 gone.

Maintenance spend about $500 on it for now. I do timing belts for $150 labor, the w/p is $25 extra and anything else while I'm in there is $20. You buy the parts, I install them. Look at your receipts and compare mileage for the last timing belt and water pump change vs what the car has now. If it's been 40k since either one then I'd say do them now. Reason why is you are gonna start pushing this car. Trust me. :PIMP:

That's about $500 more gone.
So you've spent $1200.

My car is a daily driver.
Here's what you want to do with that $1200 if the car doesn't need tires.
Do not hack your MAS yet either! Not yet.

1. K&N air filter and recharge kit
2. Dave Brode UIC pipe (put your stock 1G cbv on it and leave it piped back into the intake)
3. Dave Brode throttle body elbow

Complete exhaust. Get this set up and save a few $$. It is good for 12.0 et and 117 mph up here.

4. Used 2.5" downpipe mandrel bent (DO NOT get pressbent crap or listen to anybody that tells you too!) Do not get an "O2 Eliminator" version or one that eliminates the catalytic converter.
5. Used 2.5" hi-flo cat and a 2.5" test pipe, you need the cat for emissions.
6. Used 3" mandrel bent cat back
7. Used EVO3 O2 hsg and a used 2G or EVO3 exh manifold. There is no comparison between the evo3 o2 and the 2g O2 so don't bother with the 2g version.
8. Used Boost gauge, for now go cheapest 30 psi gauge you can get
9. Used A-pillar pod
10. Joe P. MBC

That's all about $1015 and leaves you with just under $100 to spend on your gf. Do that and be happy.

Your 4G63T can breathe like no other 4 cyl. It is imperative that you do the mods that will let her breathe first! This $$ spent will see 13's with the 14b and you will beat just about anything on the street.

Then save up for and in this order:
A pocketlogger with a Palm Pilot
A fuel pump
A s-afc
A 16g turbo
An act 2600 clutch

That's another $1200 or less if you shop wise. Your car will then be a very dependable daily driver, will scream at the track and kick ass on the street. Trust me.

Oh and run only NGK spark plugs and the stock OEM MITSU wires, do not waste your money or listen to bs claims about expensive wires. Trust me.

No freakin' Magnecore wires,I wasted $75 on 'em a while back and I now run $40 Accels and have no problems with 'em.
