I got my bottle heater off of Ebay for pretty cheap. I'm not going with a purge tho. If it's really important, I'll purge into the intake manifold with the hood up and the car on but not running, then just hit the 100% throttle switch a few times.. Then I'll start it up and stage it :)

Just installed my Zex kit this weekend. Purge with bottle opener also installed with the kit.

Please tell me you are kidding. Things could get ugly when you do decide to start the car.

He should be in the 12's with the fmic and turbo upgrade.

Tyler, I think you should paint a big ass R on the bottle!

I told my girlfriend that if she ever lost a tooth for any reason, she should either get a gold one, or one that has a big "R" on it. That would be cool, her tooth would be flyin'!!

hahaha, again, good one paul.

Tyler, at what point is it needed to build a 1.8T w/ forged pistons and rods?

I look forward to seeing it :)

yep.:D he could possibly break into 12's without nitrous, but it should be a sure thing with it

a buy named billy T got over 400 whp with a completely stock block. Troy was probably putting down about 400 whp also (judging by his trap speeds compared to billys) with a stock block. after that it seems the rods are the weakest link.

the stock 1.8t bottom end seems to be pretty strong, i will only spray at big events at the track like idrc ect... I am confident that i will do 12's w/out n20 but i will need to get the car dyno tunned and maybe larger injectors. As for t3/t4+n20, 11.99-12.2@115-118mph is the goal(stock internals). I may need to bump it to a 100 shot to hit those et's though. With the 70 shot, i want to see consistant mid 12's. As for when the turbo is going in, not till mid to late march cause Troy has a few other cars to finish b4 he can get to mine. I might install the nitrous kit pretty soon to see how it does with the k03.

Anyone with nos experience want to help me install?

AFAIK, nitrous isn't that consistent in conjunction with any other form of FI. We'll see how consistent it is at the track tho, both of us.

BoraTurbo

I have a full throttle pedal switch so it should be fairly consistant. I don't know if i should spray in first gear or not though?

exciv2000

That's not going to make it consistent. Consistent Bottle temperature and consistent bottle pressure, that's what will make it consistent runs. That's going to be hard to make consistent which will make the runs hard to be consistent. :)

putting in a turbo in a 1.8t jetta sucks ass it took me and two frinds 17 hours to do it. But it was worth it. now he blew up his clutch so we get to do that next week.

it took you 17 hrs to put on just the turbo?? or is it a whole kit (apr stage 3 type deal)?

BoraTurbo
02-27-2003, 01:15 AM
Damn, 17hours OMG. Troy said that it takes him an hour to take off the stock manifold and put the atp manifold on. Then another 2-3 hours to put the turbo, wastegate, dp, oil lines, and misc. stuff on. He does have a lift so that might make things a little easier;)

My friend Arron,Pat and I did my turbo in about 7 hours and that was with several breaks and we were a bit on the high side and only didn't get one water line tightened when we started it up. We then spent the next hour partially removing the manifold and tightening that line.

Realistically we could have done it in under 5 hours but DSMs are actually pretty easy with the right tools and be fully sober. ;)

Damn paul...thats not making good time at all...Hehe.

The first turbo i did took about hours, B16g on my laser. But it took about an hour and a half to put the stock turbo back on when i sold it...just ask dave, he was there.
Then the B16g on the 2g was about 5 hours...had some issues, and i had to modify the lines a little.

With jetta's it uses hex wrenches and you cant really see back thare so its a bitch if you have never dun it before.

Oh crap, that's nothing Paul, you oughta try a turbo on a Z. You'd think with that wide open engine bay, it'd be a piece of cake - say 1 hour?

Hahaha, first time I tried swapping out the turbo, it took 2 weeks, with the spare in hand! I had to make a custom tool to reach the lower nuts, and they were frozen. Now I could make it into a 4 or 5 hour job, but I have to remove both manifolds, then remove the turbo from the exhaust.....

he he i can swap out a z turbo in under 2 hours. i can pull the Z turbo in about 30min.

lots of practice though.
