ok i know it was no wrx or nething, plus i dont look like i have $20,000 to throw down on a car, but i drove a '95 Subaru L 2dr Coupe AWD....the price is right, BUT there was one thing wrong with it and i need some tech. advice to know if the problem is bad...

overall the car drove smooth and handled very well, the thing wrong with it was something the dealer showed me...he rocked it to show me the squeaky noise and said when u hit bumps u can hear it, he also told me it was the bushings on the car and just needed some wd40 to get rid of it.....well i did drive it and everytime i hit a bump or something in the road i heard this squeaky noise it sounded like the trunk area, but its from the front end....now my ? is wtf is it the shocks or the bushings like the delaer said??? and will this be expensive???

any help would be great i dunno where else to ask this ? kus its not a "honda" i wouldnt get much on a trade so id haveta sell my car but the price is $4900 (willing to negotiate) its auto, and has 86,120 miles on it which compared to my car is great (i have 150,000 miles on my 94 accord :p ) soooo what should i do, wait and keep looking or tryta sell my car and buy this and will it be worth it??

thanx in advance :D

Could be a lot of things really, winter is pretty hard on cars. I dont know much about Subi's at all...but most honda dealers spray the bushings with a silicone solution every oil change to help prevent the sqeaking. Definately stay away from WD-40 if you get it however...that stuff contains solvents mostly..and should never, ever, ever....be used as a lubricant on a car (in my opinion). If its the suspension squeaking..it shouldnt be too hard to track down or fix...if you know someone that would work on it for you.

Also, I bet they are in that car for about $1,000. Keep that in mind when you are haggling. Just say no a bunch of times. Trust me;)

often times the swaybar bushings can make those noises whiich are easily remedied by silicone grease. All in all, that model is a great platform. Subaru used that car in Japan as the version 3 WRX. Also, newer WRX drivetrains swap right into that car (something to consider). Let me know if i can help.

thank u so much for ur advice, right now im trying to sell my accord kus i wotn get enough for a trade on it and once i fix the fender damage the car is immaculate except for high mileage...

do u work at a subaru dealer? kus if u do i wanna be informed of late 90 model impreazas that come thru ur dealership in case this one is gone by the time i sell my accord....

neways u have been much help knowing that the drivetrains can be swapped :D  also another quick ? is this a good car for performance?? i know its not an RS but it seems very nice, much smaller then my accord but i overall liked it except for the squeaky noise in the suspension and it has some hail dmaage as well but if they are asking $4900 what can i lower them to??

thanx again for ur help

Yes i work at Flatirons Subaru in Boulder (the only mod friendly Subaru Dealer in Colorado). I would suggest finding a used impreza though an independent seller-sometimes you will get alot better deals that way. The L models are just as good if not better than the RS to modify due to lower initial cost. I'm not sure how much lower they will go on the price-if you'd like to bring it to me at the shop i'll give it a lookover at no charge. Let me know.

ok i will, thanx again i will let u know if i wanna bring this car down to u, and if i dont get this one before someone else gets it i'll keep looking, i never went thru a dealer when buying a car and i have always gotten really good cars from private owners so i'll keep my eyes open for a decent used subaru.....i got another ? for u if its not a problem, what yrs and models should i look at buying?? (something that will be easy to afford on car insurance is a major plus kus i pay $285/mo full coverage on my '94 accord thats one reason im getting rid of it)...but i want a decent subaru with potential, its time for me to cross over to the subaru scene i knew it for awhile just have made that decison finally :) and i still kick myself for not getting the SVX over the accord, i still love that car and it was 230hp stock :p

thanx again for all ur help

I'll keep an eye out for anything decent. What body style are you lookig for? Wagon-very stealth, Sedan-most WRX's are sedans, Coupe-well everyone seems to want a 2 door coupe.
I'll try to post a pic of mine.

Your car looks pretty sweet, but what's up with the roof scoop?

for the rally effect is my guess. i think the roof scoop can only work on a subaru. I love the spoiler. I think most people will disagree with me, but i think those are sweet.

The roof scoop is real and functional(STI)-not having any AC with a black car in the summer makes a nice toaster. You'd be amazed at how much cooler the interior temp is with the scoop open. Here's a pic of the inside.

Wow,the scoop is actually funtional. I applaude that since that would be a good idea but I don't think they would look right on a DSM. ;)

SubeTek - I've seen your car in a car show in downtown Denver I do believe, very nice work!

CSMsi311-no noise at all, just a huge rush of air.

futuresi- yeah, that's been my car at the shows. Thanks for the compliment.

Talus-only a measly 200 horsepower right now, but a 600hp stroker engine is going together as we speak and should be all tuned by late spring.

Your going to have one of the sickest 2.5rs's I've ever seen. I cant wait to see what times your gonna put out. Are you doing any work to the tranny besides a new clutch? I read somewhere in SCC when they turbocharged the 2.5rs the drivetrain isnt going to hold up for that long.

SubeTek

Violator-i've already got a full dogbox trans-straight cut gears, no syncros(clutchless shifting if i like). This trans is guaranteed to hold up under extreme conditions.

I cant find pricing on a WRX

What is the base price?? Or a link for me to read all the specs and pricing

Subetek: what kind of fuel management will you use on that 2.5rs

will a 2001 jdm wrx ecu work on your car if you add boost, or is an AEM EMS or some other standalone available?

SubeTek
02-20-2003, 08:43 PM
Obi Wan-I'll be using a MoTec M8. The WRX computer would work, but couldn't support the functions i need. Plus, i'd need to swap the whole wiring harness (major pain) to use it. AEM system would work also, but they don't have much support Subaru wise.

Hellified- I'm not exactly sure on base price as i'm in service, but i think it's around $23k give or take.
