This should be going down shortly, check out page 4 for details on where if you want to come

I was talking with Mike (Bedlam) during the luncheon and we thought it would be a good idea to have one. We can use this thread to organize it. We were thinking not this weekend, but the next (first weekend in february). We can maybe do a saturday afternoon-sunday morning type thing, or what ever people are interested in.

We can do it at Mike's place in Broomfield, i believe, or at mine in Golden (any other places in mind?). If we do it at my place, i have broadband with a linux box i can use as a router, so we could play online too. Plus it's always nice to have a good conection to the 'net so you can download those 80 megs patches that people need.

Game list:
Warcraft III
Quake 3
CS(?)
Tribes 2 (w00t... enough peeps actually have this?)
Natural Selection (HL mod that kicks ass, would rock in a lan 12ish peeps big www.natural-selection.org i believe)

Post your thought's here. If you haven't been to a lan it's a whole lot of fun. If your computer sucks, i might have an extra one you can use.

I agree about the High Speed connection, and our apartment has a severe lack of that. But I'm definately up for a lan party any time. And Quake 3 Is a must :)

You left out one of the best multiplayer games ever, Quake 3. And why did you waste your money on a Geforce4 MX its just an overclocked geforce2(or was it 3, either way)

OK... basics of a lan. Yes you bring your own computer. Everyone does. The place where it's at is usually set up with plenty of room where you can set up. Then you plug into the hub/switch via your NIC (network interface card) and after a few setting changes, your on the local network. Then someone or the dedicated server hosts, and everyone has fun.

Here is a list of what you should bring

MUST BRING:
Tower
Monitor
speakers/headphones
power cable
mouse
mouse pad
keyboard
game cds
power strip

Bring if you have it:
cat 5 cable
extra hub/switch
tables/chairs if you got'em
24 packs of mountain dew :D
anything you think you might need

once we decide on which games, i can post a list of what version everyone should have. This makes it a little easier so everyone isn't downloading patches.

it's really not that bad. Most people don't go to them because they think it's too much work to lug their comp. But once you try it once you'd be amazed at how fun it is. I've yet to have someone come to a lan that didn't like it or have a blast. If you really don't want to bring your comp, but want to give it a try i might have an extra one you can use.

the only way i can make it is if one of you at the lan hosts a game on the internet... not on the lan... everyone in the lan will have low as hell pings... but other peopel form the net can acces too... like me :)
pass word it or something... because i cant make it... since i like like on the other side of the usa

You know I'm down! :)

We dont have a lot of furniture...so it would be hard to get more than say 8 people in our little apt here..

Anyway...I'll be there for sure...I think Forum and my g/f Amanda will be there too...definately need to set up Q3 and RA3 however (rocket arena 3..quake 3 mod) I have 'most' game update files on my PC shared so we wouldnt have to d/l much.

DrJones

looks like we'll have to play some CS... been a while since i played, but it will come back to me quick. Don't know how many servers i got kicked off/baned from because people thought i was cheating. Guess having only 1/2 a second to cap a moving target across the map with a shot from the awp isn't normally enough. Last time i played dust i got bored and scouted. Took out two guys with one bullit (two head shots) with the scout, and hardly any time to aim. I have witnesses to that one.

ShervRacer
01-23-2003, 03:47 PM
lol... i got banned several times..... because i seem to know exactly when and where to exactly shoot to get head shots everytime with an M4... at any range.... half my kills with the gun are head shots... its just so easy to kill with that gun.... but give me an AK and i just die... :(
i am good with mac-10.... and i kick ass with MP5s

ShervRacer

its easy to do that on iceworld....

DrJones
01-23-2003, 10:54 PM
it's usually just a big kill fest. I wouldn't call it 'easy.' It's a small map... everyone is togeather. When you go solo like i try to (people get me killed) you turn the corner and there are 3 guys standing there. I don't think i would call that 'easy'

DrJones
01-27-2003, 01:03 PM
Ok so i guess my place this weekend. Do you guys want saturday or sunday? I was thinking maybe we get togeather at like 3-5 on saturday, then go till we want to stop. How many people for sure want to come? What would work best for the working folk?

i'd suggest starting in the morning around 10 on sat

we just had one at Justin's house this weekend...& it was figgin badass.

if you do one i'll be there...
& i would totally recommend getting Tom Clancy's Ghost recon...it is one of the best lan games i've ever played!!! just has the game & the cracks for it.

DrJones
01-27-2003, 01:18 PM
Also for those who don't want to lug their computer (if this is your first lan that's understandable, but i can guarentee that you'll be more than happy to bring it next time) i can probably get 2-3 extra ones. Nothing too spiffy, but they will run most games just fine. I can also let someone use mine (as is usually the case since I usually end up on someone else's computer getting it to work with the network).

That sounds like a fun game but i don't have the cd, if somoene wants to bring it, i can burn a few copies and we can spread it around. Also what games do you for sure want to play? Here is a list of servers i'll try to get up and runing on my linux box before this weekend (i'll add to this as we see fit)

Quake 3 (this has a linux dedicated server doesn't it? i'll get Rocket Arena working too)
DOD (dayofdefeatmod.com)
NS (natural-selection.org
cs (counter-strike.net)

what else?

Ghost recon was ok, I think everone had more fun playing quake 3 than they did ghost recon though. If it's later in the day I can probably make it too.

Bedlam

I think earlier in the day is a good starting point...its a little hard for some of us to get out there that early (since I'd have to go pick up my g/f first) but I'd be there before noon anyway.

There is a nice command line server for Q3/RA3 for NIX so we should be good there...I dont care for CS much at all so you prolly wouldnt catch me playing that game, however...I think with all the shit talking on here...people would really want a piece of me at quake.

Sherv and AV630: you can talk all the smack you want about your game skills...but if you were really THAT good...I'd know you. Since I dont...I really wonder. Besides..I could make a few phonecalls and have people there that would slap you both stupid in all the games you mentioned. I'm not really a n00b..I try to be a pro gamer in my spare time...and I definately "dont suck."

We like quake because its a very balanced, fun, and fast paced game. It rewards people who are good at it with kills.

Games that try to be "real" end up pissing off really good gamers..when your shots dont go anywhere near where you are aiming because of the "real" random factor..it takes away from the game. Honestly, you cant deny the pace of a good Q3/RA3 match! :)

Ok lets get an approxamite head count. This is for it being in Golden (off 6th and Indiana) starting at noon on this saturday. If there is a good chance of you coming please say so.

I will definatly be there, as will my 3 roomates. I can probably pick up 3 additional computers that people who don't want to bring theirs, (though it's much better to). If you want to use one post here too. If you have questions just ask. Also does anyone maybe have some folding chars/tables or anything? I can probably find a few extra but i'm not sure. It's really a whole lot of fun. Fun for everybody, i guarentee.

I'll be there for sure with my g/f at the bare minimum. I have one card table and chair set (just for lans..what a surprise) that I'll bring along. Another girl may be with me if she gets into town Friday.

If possible would you hold one of your 'extra' computers for my g/f? My server is down and really needs some work...if I cant get it up and running today she'll need a rig to play on.

Looking forward to it anyway...I havent been to a lan (even a small one) for quite some time. If I can manage to bring both girls..heh..it will even be better! :)

Kill you all...err...see you all Saturday! :)

Ok for people who are comming. To get here it's basically get onto 6th ave, (easiest is to go 470, 70 or 25 depending where your coming from). You exit sixth at Indiana, which is just east of I-70. It's the exit you'd take if you go to the new mall. When you exit head south, then take your first right (should be going west then), at a stop light, (6th st, about 50 feet away from 6th ave). This will take you down infront of the fairgrounds paralell to 6th. Keep going, and eventually the road will naturally curve to the left. Follow it and you will see some auto body places on both sides of the street. Keep going for about 3 blocks and take a right on 4th, which is the first street once you start seeing houses. Go down another 2-3 blocks, and you'll hit Poppy. We are right on the corner of 4th and Poppy. Address is:

354 Poppy St
Golden CO 80401

Look for the Scout (broken down old truck) without a front bumper/fenders/hood in the driveway.

Here's a map from mapquest:

map (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&addtohistory=&address=354+poppy+st&city=golden&state=co&zipcode=80401&homesubmit=Get+Map)

Starts at noon, goes till we feel like stoping. If you have questions call my cell at 303-550-9598
