How to turn off Messenger Service?

How do you turn this off. I forgot where it was located on Windows XP?

I hate having all these damn pop ups!

The best way is to uninstall it from the Control Panel. If you still want the program, then tell it that it can't open up by itself.

Do this by opening it, then get in to the preferences/settings menu. On the windows settings, there are four or five boxes that you can click. Uncheck 'start with windows' and 'allow program to run in background' for most of your troubles...

If you want it to stop opening with other programs (like outlook express), there's a registry work around but I've forgotten it. Check out xteq's setup program or do a search on microsoft's messenger site.
