View Full Version : Silvias hitting 9's in Japan

Check out the Dec. 2002 issue of Option2 magazine. Several Silvias and 180SXs
have broken into the 9's, ~on street tires~. The fastest of this bunch is an S15
running a T51, an HKS air shifter, and a rear-mounted radiator. These are all
unibody cars too, essentially stock chassis/body, not tubbed or tubed.

I translated the modifications for those who are interested...

--Sky Racing Engineering S15 Silvia: 9.771 @ 242.29 km/hr
SR20DET, 804PS, 11,500 rpm, Boost: 2.4kg/cm2, T51R SPL-BB, Tomei 2.2l kit,
Tomei cams (IN/EX: 270deg), Toda sleeves, JUN surge tank, HKS F-conV,
ARC radiator (rear mount), HKS air shifter, triple plate clutch,
HKS HiperMax Damper Drag (F:3k, R:4k), Nitto NT555R (R:315/35-17), et al

--Emotion-R 180SX: 9.937 @ 235.05 km/hr
SR20DET, 680PS, Boost: 2.4kg/cm2, T51 Kai, 2.2l kit, HKS F-conV Pro,
HKS 5speed transmission, R33 cross member, Bilstein springs (F:4k, R:3.5k),
Nitto NT555R (R:275/40-17), et al

--Garage Rise-Up 180SX: 9.982 @ 235.81 km/hr
SR20DET, 746PS, Boost: 2.3kg/cm2, Trust T88-34D, Jun surge tank,
Tomei 2.2l kit, F-conV Pro, 5spd dog-mission, HKS Hiper Max Damper Drag
coilovers (F/R: 4k), Nitto NT555R (R:315/35-17), et al

--Racing Service Takagi PS13 Silvia: 9.894 @ 238.93 km/hr
RB26DETT, 900PS, 2.2kg/cm2, RX6 TCW77-18 (x2), JUN camshafts
(IN:272deg, EX:280deg), Endless surge tank, Apexi Power FC, Trust
6speed transmission, R33 cross member, Apexi N1 Damper (F:5k,R:6k),
Nitto NT555R(R:315/35-17), et al

This is big news because previously in Japan, this 9-sec realm was reserved
for RX7's, GT-R's, and Supras. Last time I checked, the only other faster S-body
cars (Tease Blast 180 @ 9.2, Sard 180 @ 8.8, Autotech Silvia @ 8.2 and
HKS Drag 180 @ 7.415) were all running drag slicks, heavy chassis mods, etc.

good god. Give Nissan lots of credit for making some sweet cars, but bitch slap them for keeping all the cars over seas.

I'm sure nissan had their reasons for keeping them overseas or the government just wanted to be able to catch you if you run from them, with a silvia they would have some trouble. God those are sexy cars.

The supposed reason Nissan didn't bring the turbo Silvia was because of competition with the 300zx.

how much is a turbo silvia in Japan? i thought i read somewhere it started at $25,000 converted from yen add to that some importing tax/tariff (or something like that not very keen on economic terms) I think it would be a serious contender with musclecars.

I agree the 350z I think looks bitchin. A 3.5 liter with an aftermarket turbo set up would be awesome.

Both turbo and SC applications are well on thier way to being available for the 350Z soon ands we'll see what the aftermarket can do. I know Blitz has something coming out very soon.

WTF? the new 350z wouldn't touch my or your car for that matter in the 1/4 mile. Secondly, the handleing is not that great either, there damn heavy. I can't wait to see some guys bring their new 350z to the track and throw down some 15's, hell maybe even 16's.

BTW people are intitled to thier own opinion and i think the 350z.

I would take a 16 second 350z over your 14 second Jetta in a heartbeat. I wouldn't even have to think twice.

Of course everyone has thier own opinion, but you still drive a Jetta, which no matter which way you look at it, doesn't have the prestige or class of the Z. IMO

You need to think of the bigger picture.

The 350Z is not a classy car, if you want class and prestige, find a new 911T. How am i not looking at the big picture? The bigger picture is my jetta will smoke the new Z down the 1/4, get better gas millage, makes more sense(4 doors), better in the snow, and cost alot less.

The Z is really made to turn. It pulls a .86g and won a car and driver comparison test against the mach 1, s2000 and TT. This car is no slouch. I would pick a sports car over a Jetta any day.

Dustin

If I wanted good in the snow, cheap and faster than your car I would stick with a WRX.

Every car serves a purpose, the Jetta and Z are not made to serve the same one.

Z= sports car

jetta= family sedan

I get the feeling you just hate japanese cars.

People that buy Z car don't care about the number of doors, remember it only has two seats. You don't buy a Z car for the same purpose of a Jetta.

Tyler, lay off the weed some. ;)

P.S. What will a modded Z do to a Jetta? What would a stock Z do to a Jetta on a road course?

all i'm saying is that i think a sports car should run at least a low-mid 13 stock. Obviously i don't give a flying fuck about how well the car handles, i'm into the 1/4 mile. Do you guys think a first gen handles well? hell no but they rock down the 1/4. oh yeah, wrx's are about 6g's more than my car and with just one bolt-on, it did mid 14's. 02 jetta 1.8t's do 14.4's bone stock. Jeff did a 15.1 bone stock up at bandi, when ever is see wrx's, all i see are high 15's and 16's.

It took me a helluva lot less effort to go 13.50's than for you to go 14 flat. I can tell you that. ;)

Tyler mod for mod a WRX will kill our cars....And I dont care what the Z runs man, it is more about the big picture... That car does handle good and it is quick. IT looks good, goes pretty good, and girls like them.....what's not to like about it????

HONDA GHANDI

Girls like em, thats all that really matters anyway. Steve is absolutly correct on that point.

We all buy cars for different reasons. The Z is an awesome car, as is the WRX, as well as the Jetta. Z would probably get the most ladies though........well unless you have a silver gti lol ;) j/k

i dont liek jetta... especially the old ones... thoe were the worst cars ever created... they fell apart so fast... the other models didnt have as many probs.. but the jetta used to be the infamous lemon.. .thats why i rejected this VR6 Jetta 1996 for my first car.... i took the civic ex over it.... those jettas are hit or miss.... you might have a good experience or you might have the worst nightmare ever.... i heard SOOO Much problems about it, and everyone had the same probs...

Actually I see that as a problem with all cars. Every manufactureer has its so called "lemons". Some are worse than others, so goes life. I like my Jetta, it is much better build quality than the other cars in its class and for the most part it's faster too.
