I got ahold of a vag-com from a local friend and logged block 120, for those who dont know it hooks into the car and is able to read everything going on. block 120 is rpms and newton meters (NM) which I converted to ft-lbs of torque and calculated hp from there.
heres a graph someone made for me
http://www.njvdubnut.com/02GTI1.8t-block120.jpg

202.43 peak hp @ just under 6000 rpms
237 ft-lbs of tq @just under 3000 rpms

people have run the block 120 while getting dynoed and they say its quite acurate.

Very nice !!!

From what i've read those numbers are pretty accurate from the vag-com. A guy who ran those then got on a real dyno put down almost the same numbers each time.

what is vag-com? is that only for vw's?

Yeah it's for all VW/Audi products. It's just an obd2 scan tool that you can hook up to a lap top and read all kinds of cool stuff from.

nice hp curve. i like it how it doesn't have a huge spike.

Its very smooth overall, a bit rough around 5000 rpms but not too bad. I was surprised to see it was holding 200 hp at 6000 rpms and even a bit past.in fact I was still making 190 hp at 6500 rpms. I would think the tiny k03 would run out of steam.

this was on pump gas too wasn't it?

yep. The race program should pull harder up top. a dumptube should help also or at least a catback

how does that 3" dp feel? wanna buy my ecs n75 race? it got me at least 1-2 tenths and maybe 1mph in the 1/4. I'll send it to you for $80 shipped. eh, your a friend, i'll do $75 shipped.

sounds sweet. i think the aem will do something similar, not sure on how accurate it is. i know at least that you can spin your tires or it will through off the calculations

Nice, just over that 200hp mark! and lots of tq down low!

i might be very interested, maybe I can get this as a christmas present from the parents. Its in good condition i assume? the 3" downpipe feels great. the car doesnt feel as fast down low but it definately pulls harder up top. I think it just makes the car smoother overall which makes it feel slightly slower down low.

The nice part is the 237 ft/lbs of torque. Even with the supercharger my civic had maybe 140-150 ft/lbs.

tyler did you ever sell your dumptube? if not i may be interested in that as well

I assume this is at the flywheel?

02GTI1.8t

no its to the wheels and its close to what a real dyno would show.

the flywheel #'s would be around 225 hp and 260 ft-lbs

Interesting, considering the vagcom is reading inputs to the ECU from various sensors, and most of them are not in the tranny. Maybe it auto corrects it for SAE or something.

sweet numbers!

what engine code? AWP?

02GTI1.8t
12-07-2002, 05:13 PM
yea im not sure exactly how they get the #'s but considering a chip alone is supposed to give me 215 crank hp and 240 ft-lbs. then 3" downpipes usually add another 15-20 hp/torque.

Scott, it's pretty simple in how it works. There are sensors on the wheels for the traction control system that measure wheel velocity and wheel slippage. The ecu simply converts these numbers into newton meters for use i nthe traction control system. The vag com then reads the torque numbers and plots them. You do a 3rd or 4th gear pull just like on a dyno, and all numbers are measured at the wheels. His numbers are pretty much dead on what you would expect to see from similarly modded vw's on a normal dyno. Afterall he did hit a 13.9 at 4000 feet with just a chip...........

Yeah it's like the system endyn used to talk about on their "supercharger kit"
