Anyone know what the fastest and/or most powerful front engine front wheel drive car is (domestic/ import)?

The fastest I know of is Acura 3.2 TL Type-S

260 bph
232 lbs-ft

The Maxima has 255hp. It is also a 3.5 liter

Are you talking production car, as in off the showroom floor?

Gotta be more than that. Is a Skyline FWD?

I think the fastest FWD production car right now is the Saab 9-3 Viggen, I've usually seen it timed around 14.7-14.8 for the 1/4 mile at sea level. I think it's a 225hp I-4 turbo. I don't have all the specs in front of me, so I could be wrong. Hope that helps.

mid to high 17s I think at our altitude. IMO pathetic. The TL-S runs mid-high 15s up here AFAIK.

Dodge SRT4 - 14.0@100mph (pre production model but......)

Type R Integras have been known to turn 14.5s pretty regularly.

I think you saw an older one.

I had a friend race his sisters older one and it ran a 16.7 with a manual tranny. The current one runs mid 14s at sea level so I would think high 15s here are realistic.

altima runs 14.6 at sea level

yeah the older maximas run 17's up here with an auto.

No, there's one guy on this board, what's his name, mudd or something who is turning 17s in his new maxima, AFAIK

PT Cruiser has the same engine, and MotorWeek got a 15.3 I think out of it at or near sea level (wherever they do their testing). That would be roughly a 16 around here? That's still fairly decent, even though the PT is heavier than the neon. I'd guess low to mid 15s up here for the neon based upon this evidence.

Brian

The neon pulled a 14.0 and a 14.1 in the test I saw of it. It should be in the high 14's with a good driver up here.

i'd say the turbo Neon as well.... that, of course, for cars available in the US market. go across the pond and you'll find some serious smokers.

uh no, his is not a new maxima, remember the 255HP came out on the 2002 models. Mudd's car is 1-2 years old i believe, but not a 2002.

FWIW, the most powerful FF car (but certainly not the fastest) is from the Cadillac camp. Both the DeVille DTS and Seville STS come with 300 hp driven through the front wheels. 'burnout:

I've never driven one but I'd imagine the torque steer would be a bitch.

yes they do.

Now are we talking "fastest" FF here or most hp? Fastest would probably go to the new neon, most hp to the caddy.

very rare car. I saw it in a article in road & track a few years ago. the article was "t5-r vs. m3" the t5-r beat it down the drag strip.

there is the 850-r and t5-r. the t5 is extremely rare. i think only like 1500 made. the 850-r is like 245hp and the t5-r is like 275hp.

Brian

I actually do remember hearing that the fastest FF was the Volvo 850r. I wasn't aware of the T-5r though.

BTW Volvo's are Sweedish not German ;)

I looked around and I found some stuff on Volvo T5-R

After many German web pages, I found this one (Not German).

http://home.wxs.nl/~marc.hesselberth/850turbo.html

This guy mod’ed his ride a little bit.

He claims he’s got 321 bhp…and uses 98 octane fuel.

All the T5-R’s I saw were all this cream-yellow color.

He's been racing that car for the last three seasons and it's an auto and he doesn't drive it hard for the sake of consistently. He babies his launches with minimal revs.
The newest models have a substantial boost in hp and have run 14.4s in MotorTrend, even the new Altima is in the 14s.

In the new Motor Trend the new Accord coupe V6 6-speed (240hp) ran a 14.5. The new CL Type-S 6-speed should run the same if not a little quicker since it has 20 more horses. They should be at the top of the quickest FWD list.

The Volvo T5R comes in a sedan as well, and also in Black @ White. They haul some ass, the meet we had up at the Vans Skate Park with mostly Euros had an 850R and a T5R. The T5R was black :) I would love to have one, but they are hard as hell to find, i think some guy was trying to sell his for 14k somewhere in CO. The R32 GTS was FWD right? I dont know what they run though 1/4 wise. Probably low 14's to high 13's stock?
