Well, I was driving west on 72nd today and shortly after I passed the new new Wal-Mart on 72nd Sheridan I had a Westminster cop pull up behind me and follow me for about a half a mile. I could tell he was running my plates... I didn't think I was going to get pulled over because I know I wasn't speeding but he ended up stopping me.

He said he stopped me for two reasons:

1. My license plate frame was covering up half of my month and date stickers so he said I had to take it off. (you could still read them, so he was just nitpicking)

2. I had an air freshener and a little tiny plastic hello kitty figure hanging from my rear view mirror and he said that it obstructed my vision (especially being in a small car) I've had that same stuff up there for quite some time and it has never interfered with my vision....

Needless to say, he let me off with a warning.... but I am guessing that he was hoping he could get me for something else.

Westminster police must have been bored today.

Westminster Cop are a Bitch...When they see an import with rims and gauges in the car, they almost alway pull right behind you and follow you to a couple of mile just to scare you. I alway wear my seatbelt when heading up there just to be safe.

I had an Arapahoe sherrif stop me about a month ago in the dime. It was for no seatbelt, but he warned me about how low the truck was and the cracks in the windshield - but didn't do anything about those other things. He did however make me remove the air freshener from the mirror. It was just one, and it was the smaller leaf shaped ones. Mine never obstructed my view in any way either.

1) I would have laughed at his reasoning.

2) I would have requested his card so I had his badge number for future reference for complaining about him pulling me over without probable cause; also, I would have informed him of this reasoning.

3) I would have asked him if he had anything better to do than pull me over for breaking NO laws, versus someone easily causing more trouble than I.

FUCK the Police. Seriously.

p.s. When I had my old Si, I was cruising down 72nd, and suddenly had a Westminster (fucking pig) cop behind me pulling me over. Yet... guess what!?! I was already pulled over. I was sitting on the side of the road looking at directions with my ex-gf on how to get to our friend's party. He pulls up behind me, asks if I had something to say to him, to which I reply no, he says "well, looked like you were flipping me off back there" to which I said "uh, you're insane. I never did that." We went back and forth, he failed to work with me, so I said, "just give me my ticket and I'll see you in court with my attorney". He gave me a no seatbelt ticket, I showed up without attorney and explained my side, and without even asking twice, they dropped it.

Again, fuck the police. Seriously.

I don't mean to be an ass... but having license plate covers that partially cover your tags isn't the smartest thing, and really having ANYTHING hanging from your rear view mirror is just stupid. He may have been bored, but I know countless people who have gotten ticketed for both those violations.

I found out last year when I got a ticket for anti-photo radar plate covers, that ANYTHING(including the mounting bolts) that covers the licence plate is illeagal..
That is the stupidest reading I have ever seen.
I read the violation and the code..
So.....wtf are we supposed to do,glue the fucking plate to the car?

Are you saying you don't wear your seatbelt all the time? If that's indeed what it is, you really should.

So you are going to act like a hardass to a cop whos 1) doing his job and 2) pulling people over because they ARE breaking the law...hrmm... :ethug:

License plate covers are illegal. Period.
Anything larger than an inch (I think) hanging from your mirror..also illegal.

I'd say in this case you were lucky he WASNT a prick and gave you warnings and not tickets for those items. He absolutely could have.

like I said, he was just nitpicking me... you could easily see by the color of my tags that they Expired in 2008 and you could also read the "10" even though it was covered up a little bit.

he was just picking on me.

Maybe he should go harass those stupid people that hang their babies shoes on their rear view mirror... something that might actually block your view of the road.

Like I said, Westminster Police were bored yesterday.

I just realized that I've had my plates covered via protective plexiglass since I got the car. I guess I'm just waiting to be pulled over.

Um, yes, I would request his card and complain. Call me crazy, but seems to me cops should be out stopping ACTUAL crime. You know, rapists, murderers, dare I say car theft?

But hey, if you want to ;SwallOw: the long dick of the law, by all means, have at it and be cool with them doing retarded ass pull-overs like her's.

Westminster police are notorious for this kind of stuff, especially with people driving imports. I can understand them wanting to make contact with people in order to discover fugitives or evidence of criminal activity, but they're pretty nuts about it.

Sooo...riddle me this...

He gave her a warning..because she is comitting an ACTUAL crime. Yes its stupid, and pretty petty in the grand scheme of things.

But what, exactly...was he doing wrong that you would have complained about?

You dont think rapists, murderers, and car thieves end up driving places in cars? How about the fact that when the import car mee all got stopped at the rtd station in parker like 6 people there had outstanding warrants?

Being a police officer and traffic enforcement is all about statistics and numbers..the more people you get to stop the more likely it is that you will find those really bad people. Like I said above..he absolutely could have given her a ticket..but he didnt. Days like that you should just be happy that they are out there doing the job..maybe the next car he will pull over will be stolen or have some drug dealer in it.

Your attitude makes me sick..what would you do if the police werent out there? E-thug people that break the law? Oh thats right..its all you do anyway. :p

I guess I am a fan of the police..yes westminster cops can be jerks, so be it.

whats the license plate border say?

it was an Avalanche border... it's off now.

I agree with respecting the police and I appreciate what they do. I was just a little irritated for what I got stopped for when there are much bigger fish to fry out there.

I'm just happy he let me off with a warning. That would have been a petty ticket.

It is a petty thing to be pulled over for but a lot of criminals are caught by being pulled over for silly things like that.

If he didn't give you a ticket...It probably doesn't matter..
I was given a 3 point ticket for illeagal plate covers in broomfield county.. though the ticket said I was in boulder county.. Boulder county line was about 1/2 mile ahead of us.. I still got the fine and the points.. Technicalities don't seem to matter anymore...I proved that the cop had our location wrong, but I still got it in the ARSE anyway....
So much for defunct fucking witnesses(even though is was a bullshit cop)..
I would just write it off and feel lucky.

yes, Denver/ Aurora seem to do it all the time. I've been pulled over in Aurora by a Denver police officer before and on one occasion had them call an Aurora officer and the other I was let go with a warning. I have had friends with similar situations as well. Jurisdiction does not seem to matter much anymore in Colorado
