Aight puter freaks.... this questions for j00!

I'm in need of some instruction regarding Microsoft Server 2003.

Don't necessarily need to be certified, but do need some of that "you oughtta know" stuff that makes an administrator actually usefull.

Been surfing through a good deal of books that are available at Amazon.com and the likes... but I figured I'd ask you guys/gals here to see what'cha think.

Found THIS.... (http://www.amazon.com/MCSA-MCSE-Self-Paced-Training-70-290/dp/0735622892/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1220233383&sr=1-2) thoughts?

I'm looking for something I can read through in my spare time (and whilest at work) up till October, cause than I'm going to be getting some hands on. I'm looking for literature that I can take with me after the fact and use as reference once I'm there.

Hit me.

There's lots of parts to Windows Server. Do you know what you want to learn?

AD is highly dependant on DNS which is integrated into AD itself and a great place to start.

If you can, you would probably learn a good deal if you can setup a decent box and put VMWare Server on it. Get those books and then setup your own domain with the internal VM network, 2 DCs, 2 XP boxes, etc. If you install Exchange you'll see a lot more about administering users and groups which is a big part of administering AD even though officially it is Exchange.

Without setting it up I don't think you'll learn. There's a lot you can't really learn unless you sit and go through it, group policy, etc comes to mind. Setting up a Domain Controller on a brand new Domain and getting new users on new XP boxes to authenticate into it should give you something to do for a couple days.

Schweet.

I've had some hands on with it but not as much as I'd like.

I picked up "Windows Server 2003 Environment" (Training Kit.) I have Windows Server 2003 and Exchange Server... so if I could pick up a tower that could handle it without dropping too much change... I would like to set up a server for something like a basic forum.

That's what I'd really like to do... cause I'm best with hands on training... which I'll get more of for the month of October, but it's never a bad idea to go prepared.
