http://www.Blender.org

I've looked at it a few times over the years, but I never really tried to learn how to use it properly before. Any suggestions on good resources for learning it? I'm familiar with the technology and concepts behind it, as I've written 3D rendering engines before, but I just haven't had much experience using proper modeling tools, so it's time to change that...

I don't but I know of somebody who more than likely does, so I'll post this on the other forum and ask him.

EDIT: Has to wait till I get home seeing as how the SmartFilter won't let me post on that particular website. It'll let me browse it though.... damnit.

Haven't tried it. I typically use lightwave or maya. Might have to check it out though.

Shit... since we're on the subject.

Where would a complete noob to this begin? This sounds like something I would definitely get into.

I would just find some decent tutorials and play around with the tools. Find something simple like a cd cover to model, then go from there. Get better and you can start to model items with compaund curves and more complex shapes. I really enjoy doing it myself.

Go to Barnes and Noble and buy a book... it was the best $20 I ever spent, and I learned a ton, and had a blast while doing it. I was a big Maya fan.

What would I be looking for?

Titles?

Okay, so I lied when I said $20... books are expensive. ^_^ However it's 650 pages, and written by the creators of Maya, so it's prolly one of the best resources you could have.

I used it a bit until our company picked up Max, Maya and Lightwave, it is a good free tool. just google Blender Modeling Tutorials, there are lots of fun ones to do.
