I am looking for a performance 22re longblock for my 88 yota truck.I have heard good things about doa and lce.I am also considering a new factory shortblock and building from there. The unit will be used for backwoods exploring and some lite hauling. She will stay mostly stock as far as susp/tire size.Any input would be helpful, thx j

Dude man, comp cams makes cam kits for the 22res that give it good low end for hauling. Without some serious dough, it would be difficult to turn a 22re into a "performance" motor. My old boss had an 88 p/u 4wd lifted a couple inches on stock tires, and he pulled me and my Talon from Pueblo to the springs a couple times. It wasnt too big of a deal either, pulled it pretty decently with merely a cam and intake...plus reliability is the 22r's middle name. Ive seen 22r's with WELL over 220k on them that still start every time, and use NO oil between changes...so long as they're taken care of, theyll take care of you!
if you want to do more than that, check out lcengineering.com. They KNOW their sheit, and are decently priced. Plus, I know people that have nothing bad to say about them. Hope that helps!

Yeah reliability is why I bought the truck. This is my 7th yota truck. It is the 1st yoter I have started a build on.I went to a local dealer and bought a brand new(made in japan) factory shortblock and I am building from there. The parts guy cut me a smoking deal, much to his bosses' dismay.I am now considering a head package from lce.I don.t need gobs of hp but i would like to make about 165-175 ft/lbs of trq at the wheels.I have also considered getting the head done at a local shop in denver or the springs.thx for the help,j
