well i have a bare B16A2 block with a good crank and caps i wanna bore it out to 2.0L (84mm?) i was wondering how much it would cost for the sleeves from a shop or should i use just a block guard im considering boost for that block.
also is there anyshops that i could take the block and sleeves to and they just do it? or do i have to order threw the shop

I'm not sure, sorry. I've never personally looked into a bore or block gaurds. However, both Tobi (TC) and Sam (IS) are both here on the forums. Just give them a jingle and go from there.

you cant bore a B16 to 84mm without sleeves. For Darton MID sleeves on the B16 you are looking at about $1500-$1700 depending on what type of build it is for, boost, NA, etc. If you are going to boost it I would go ahead and forget the idea of 84mm if I were you. It does not leave enough head gasket between cylinders to keep a consistant seal between the cylinders.

thanks i figured the engine was to small. ive kicked around the idead of boost but idk i like how na sounds. its a future project to i aint looking forward to doing anything....
how about if i bought the block and brought them in to you when i want work done would that make it cheaper at all?

We've put down 215whp N/A on a B16 block with a very mild build back in the days and still can do it now. 84mm with high comp wiseco pistons and mild cams will get the job done for sure. Golden Eagle sleeves through us is $900.00 and AEBS is $975.00. We send blocks out weekly to the two and its no problem to send yours out. 3-6 week turn around is the average time.
If you want to boost it, no problem too!

First off a b16 bored to 84 millimeters is not 2 liters, a b20 has an 89mm stroke and 84mm bore and its not technically a 2 liter at 1973cc, and what honda ghandi said about 84mm being to much of a bore for a boosted application i just feel thats false information considering the never ending list of people that can be found all over the internet running 84mm bores and i've even seen a couple 84.5 and 85 out there. Also don't forget you can get the sleeves copper o-ringed and then run a copper coated headgasket for maximum sealing. So if you have the coin i say shoot for the stars

Everyone is open to their opinion RiceBurner.
Tobi (Honda Ghandi) is one of the most inteligent Honda mechanics in Colorado--he probably has a good sense of what he's talking about.

I never said it "couldnt" be done RicerBurner. I said it "shouldn't" be done from a reliability standpoint. The gains had on a boosted motor by pushing the limits of the head gasket are not enough to sacrifice reliability in my opinion. Quote H-T all day if you like, but I build these for a living, and have been since 1992. A safe motor that makes 450whp is better than a ticking time bomb that makes 500whp.
And for the record, I have built at least half a dozen 81mm Bseries engines that are well into the 500hp range, so bore size is not really an argument.

so then a block guard would be better on a std bore if ur boosting to 400ish

It would be cheaper, not always better.

i said nothing about bore size making power honda-ghandi and i would also feel safer running an 81 mm sleeve, as for using a blockguard dan3490 I wouldn't recommend that just because rarely if ever is a blockguard installed correctly, and from my own experience of using one i just don't feel there necessary also dan3490 how about just keeping the stock sleeves going like .5 over get a great tune it is absolutely amazing what bseries even dseries sleeves can hold horsepower wise on a good tune and i'm sure that will take care of your wildest dreams

aww thanks for clearing that up for me....im gettin rid of the b16.....im thinking just boost my ls it has 82mm ctr pistons right now that need to be swaped out.....so i dont really need a block guard or new sleeves how much would that handle safely
