View Full Version : Need help quick
So, I'm trying to replace an O2 sensor and the previous owner apparently buggered it up and rounded off the corners pretty good. Anyone have some good suggestions as to how to get this damn thing out?

Is it in a place you can get to it easily? Got pics? Usually when they are fuckered, it is a royal PITA to get them out. You might have to get the torch out and big set-o-pliers
I actually pulled the whole Y pipe section that contains the O2 sensor out. It's sitting in my drive way.
I like the vice grip idea. Guess it's time to go to the store.
I don't have a torch :(

Harbor Freight does not sell torches with full tanks. You will still have to make 2 trips for that.
I finally got it with vice grips and half a can of WD-40.

you need to find some real penetrating fluid (huh huh huh he said penetrating) for next time like PB BLaster. It works great!
FWIW, just to leave a record for some future reader going through the same issues but not having luck with the WD40:
Without really much effort, the hex 'head' of the O2 sensor in my D16Z6 twisted right off of the portion that remained firmly rusted in the manifold; the wall of the O2 sensor isn't more than 1mm thick in this area (between the top of the threads and the bottom of the hex surface).
So, I had to drill it out - I think that the largest drill bit I used was 1/2" - and then using a round file, wore down a grove in the ring of metal that remained until the back of the treads just barely became apparent (I used to use a dremel for this, but always went too far and damaged the mainfold/mount's threads). Then using a screwdriver and hammer to drive one side of the 'ring' right next to the grove, knocked it out.
