Another example of how the system is broken. Watch the face of the guy behind the speaker. ;)

I agree with him, although the cons of the CFL's are a bit overstated and blown out of proportion.

In my opinion, him blowing that out of proportion was fair because of the fact that the geniuses that thought of the idea to put that "law" into effect blew out of proportion what they claim the benefits would be of switching to those bulbs.

The "supposed" benefits are pretty clear, one of the cfl light bulbs uses something like 13 watts of energy and puts out light equal to that of a 60w incandescent bulb. Does that mean we should be forced to use a certain light bulb? Probably but, I don't agree with it.
As far as the mercury goes, it's used in standard fluorescent bulbs as well.

Yeah that's Tom Tancredo behind him. I don't think that the point of the speech was the CFLs but rather that Democrats have no energy policy (clean or dirty).

:werd: It's not the government's place to legislate this, but I use them and like them... they produce white light (not yellow), put out tons of light per watt, and last a lot longer. I was an early adopter, so the ones I have don't work with a dimmer and have a second delay before you turn them on, but I hear that those issues don't necessarily apply to all CFL's nowadays. As for the energy savings, it's really just a drop in the bucket compared to all the power I normally use, so I don't notice a difference in my bill.
