Need suggestions

So, recently I started to notice a small paint chip on my front bumper of my Accord. I got a good size rock thrown at me from a 18-Wheeler last year. The car has been sitting for almost a year and I have just got it back up and running 100% in the past month.

Today, as a matter of fact, I noticed the the paint chip is almost 3x the size it used to be. The rock hit my bumper juuuust right. The damge is so...light that the top layer of my paint is being chipped away. It flakes if I even touch it.

Need some help guys. Should I attempt to fix the large chip (some suggestions would be helpfull). Or is it gonna cost less overall, be less hassle, and be overall better if I just take the car in to a body shop? Let me know guys. Appreciate it much.

I would start by going to www.paintscratch.com and getting some touch up paint and clear. If the chip is through the primer then get some primer as well. Generally speaking the brush that comes in the bottle is too large unless you are working on a pretty large chip. If it is small then shake the bottle and take the brush out. Cut the bristles to be about half as long as they are and cut 1/2 to 3/4 of the bristles off completely. This will give you a smaller stiffer brush that is easier to work with. Wipe the area with 3m general purpose adhesive remover or similar to make sure the paint will stick. Apply a VERY small amount of paint to the chip. It should take 2-3 applications to fill in the area. Be careful to not apply so much paint that it is higher than the surrounding paint or you will have to wet sand to get it even...which is a lot of work. The touch up paint should be just a tiny bit below the surrounding paint ideally. Now do one or two THIN coats of clear (unless your car has no clear coat, some white accords have no clear). Again, take your time and use the least amount of paint you can to cover the area. Let me know if you have any more questions. I do a fair amount of touch up work so I should be able to walk you through it. Also, can you post a pic of the chip? That would help a lot.

Under law, I am in no way shape or form responsible for what happened to that car. I really am sorry about all that has happened, but at the same time...I'm happy this all happened because you know what guys, I've come to realize something--you guys are fucking crazy and not that great of friends to begin with. The timing was really shitty Paul. This couldn't have happened at a worse time. I was just graduating, the Germany trip was coming up, and we had just signed the papers for WyoTech. Honestly, if this would have happened during the middle of the school year when I was 40+ hours at Walmart I coulda had that car good as new in no time, but sadly that's not the case. You guys continue to beat and refuse to talk to me because I can't replace the car, but at the same time you have absolutelty no idea. You say, you know people doing the incredible (work and 9 hours of collage classes five days a week) but I truley don't think you know until you've done it. Legally, yes, I wrecked the car, I was at fault for that and therfore I recieved a ticket for driving too close. However, it all comes down to Insurance because they are the ones who take care of the damage control. The Insurance says tha because Josh was only on Liability when he hands the keys over to another person and the car is in an accident he legally takes responcibilty for the car. The person driving the car was just that, just a driver. Go do some reasearch skt8r than get back to me.

Now one the other hand, full coverage allows you to loan out your car to pretty much anyone, have it an accident and it will be fixed by your Insurance agency.

NOW as for court. What is he going to sue me for? He can sue me for 5200 dollars, but he wont win. I have nothing to my name and with his car being under liability only the judge will dismiss the case. He has absolutely nothing to sue me with. You can literally sue anyone for anything. I could sue you for wearing a black shirt after church on a Sunday...but will that hold up in court....noooooo. This is the same thing. He can sue me, but it wont hold up in court.

I wasn't riding his ass at all. Despite how all this has gone down I do have respect for my friends. I wasn't speeding...at all. The speed limit was 65 and I was going just that, than I hit rain, four lanes of traffic came to two lanes so EVERYONE started cramming in and traffic slowed way the fuck down. I was a good distance back, but couldn't tell how drasticly the truck had slowed down until it was too late. I just slid right down the inerstate, I had no where to go. A Dakota was on my right and their was no side lane on the left. I tried to steer out of it, but I couldn't. I just slide a good distance right under the truck.

I wasn't speeding and I wasn't tailgating. Those guys know I've never been the tailgater and never been the crazy jackass driver. I'll go out and have fun, get into trouble (James knows what i'm talking about) with them, but I'm not a dumbass behind the wheel.

Why I didn't go to the hospital?? I had to argue with the fucking paramedics and fire fighters for almost a god damn hour, than get it approved by the chief paramedic back at base, just to get out of the car and NOT go to the hospital. Than, I had to sign a piece a paper saying that the hospital wasn't liable if I was to fall over and die the next day because of some sustained injuries from the accident. Furthermore, a couple weeks or so before that I spent almost 24 hours in the hospital from Alcohol poisioning that I got at Anothony (Little Browns) party. Plus, if you must fucking now, I get seizurs...and four or so months before the alcohol incident, I was hospitalized for a bad migrane headache that i was afraid was going to turn into a seizure!!! So skt8r you fucking prick bag, I didn't go to the hospital because just like the car, we couldn't have afforded another hospital bill. I made that desision not based on the fact that I was ok, but on the fact that me nor my family can afford it.

Why I didn't go to the hospital?? I had to argue with the fucking paramedics and fire fighters for almost a god damn hour, than get it approved by the chief paramedic back at base, just to get out of the car and NOT go to the hospital. Than, I had to sign a piece a paper saying that the hospital wasn't liable if I was to fall over and die the next day because of some sustained injuries from the accident. Furthermore, a couple weeks or so before that I spent almost 24 hours in the hospital from Alcohol poisioning that I got at Anothony (Little Browns) party. Plus, if you must fucking now, I get seizurs...and four or so months before the alcohol incident, I was hospitalized for a bad seizure!!! So skt8r you fucking prick bag, I didn't go to the hospital because just like the car, we couldn't have afforded another hospital bill. I made that desision not based on the fact that I was ok, but on the fact that me nor my family can afford it.

I know the whole story, i've heard it from both you and him, and i was at that party. You were shitfaced off of 2 beers, and a shot trying to bump and grind on every guy between the basement, and the garage... FYI for you Zach: I graduated, I'm 19 and i work 45-50 hours a week doing paint/body work (which i didnt have to PAY to learn, i taught myself and it paid off just fine), i pay 2 car payments, insurance on both and support myself. Find the motivation and discipline to do that, and not hide behind your "im going to college" (or collage as you spell it) excuse, then we'll talk.

bd240 - the NADA value, of which the car payout would be from insurance is $5200. The car will total if it hits 70% of that value to repair it. Which, in this case, it did. However, since the owner only has liability, thus only covering damages to the other persons vehicle, hes in a fucked situation because his "prick bag" friend, wont man up and replace the vehicle.

It is High School bullshit--hense why I don't want to be a part of it anymore. Now, i'm not going to continue and play your prissy little games and say that, "oh, your unmotivated." or, "oh, you're never going to go anywhere." because frankly--it's none of my buisness. All I will say is this, I don't care for your personal opinions on my school of choice (WyoTech). I know, and have witnessed, multiple people come out of this school making anywhere from 20,000 dollars to 100,000+ dollars. This school, just like everything else in life, is ONLY and I repeat ONLY what you make it. You give it 100% here than that's what you're going to get in return; however, you come in with a negative attitude and screw around all the time, well, it's going to catch up to you at graduation when recruiters come looking for potential employers. You speak of people coming out of WyoTech dumber than when they came in--well chances are they were never really that bright to begin with (no offense).

I don't think I know all nate, I'm just proud of where I'm recieving schooling. Not only will I have my Automotive Core Program, but I will also have an Associates Dagree in Buisness. Furthermore, I am taking Chassis Fabrication and High Performance. I'm not cocky and think that I know everything because I went to WyoTech, i'm simply proud. And I know you wont admit it, but if you were recieving the same dagree as I, you would be too.

I'm moving on with my life. I'm tired of this lifestyle. It was cool back in HIgh School, but that shit is done and over with--it's time to move on. Do something bigger and better with my life. I'm glad Jeremy realized it before I did, otherwise, I'd probably still be there...in colorado...probably bailing my friends out of jail or getting in there myself.

This is why I never driver other people's cars. I know if the car ever breaks or I wreck it I would be at fault and whoever's car I'm driving would get mad. My friend went to wyotech and he is not doing shit as far as being a mechanic. I do alot of work with dealerships and what most people have told me is that you should start by doing oil changes and eventually the dealership might pay for your schooling or help you out. Most dealerships want people with hands on experience... not books...
