View Full Version : New Record?

The SI was stolen again this morning. That makes the 5th time. Is that a new record?
The damage was minimal this time, the kill switch did it's job and it wasn't too far from the house. They did seem to push it with another car though.
One thing that is interesting is the Alarm was completely disabled. I'm not sure how they managed that.
So, any ideas besides getting a new car? It now has lojack, a kill switch and an alarm.
The only constant in all of the thefts is the maner in which they got in and bypassed the ignition. I know they use those little tabs above the window to get the window open. I suppose I might be able to take those off, but I'm not sure if they would just break the window in that case. I wonder if anyone makes an ignition system/steering column that doesn't take 30 seconds to break into and bypass using almost no special tools.
Anyone interested in starting a pool for picking the time period of the 6th time?

5th time? Holy shit bud. You live in an APartment or condo? If not, I say get cameras.

Yes, but it's not Honda, except for maybe their more recent models. I remember my '97 Integra's ignition wires being so easy to get to that it was just comical... I wasn't even looking for them when I noticed them. Anyone with basic electrical knowledge could hotwire it, and it sounds like the steering lock must not be too hard to break. That's why kill switches and other devices are absolutely essential when owning a Honda / Acura, but unfortunately thieves are still just as likely to break in, thinking that it'll be as easy to steal as any other Honda.

Why not run a hidden switch to the fuel pump since that would keep the car from being driven?
I had one on my Eclipse and cost sabout $10 to do and if they can't find it then you can't start the car.

maybe it was this kid who stole it?

That's what the kill switch does.
They basically have about 2 seconds of gas before it cuts off. However, that doesn't stop them.
Once it cuts off they push it down the street (I live on a hill) to someplace where they can spend more time trying to get it started. They usually push it about .25-.5 miles away.
It stops them from getting very far, so the car is easy to find, but unfortunately doesn't stop them completely.

After looking the car over breifly yesterday I figured out how they bypassed the alarm. They popped your hood by going through the fender to the hood cable, then took off your battery cable. They forcibly removed your alarm siren (it is MIA) and then reconnected the battery. I am working on an idea or two for you that we can talk about when I call you with the damage estimate.

battery re location would be an idea.
Rerouting the hood cable would be a start.

My word. Did you piss someone off? Take all that nonsense off, let them have it if they want it that bad and get something else. Is having an SI worth all this trouble you've had to go through?

I had my old Integra stolen three times, after the third I was smart enough to get rid of it. Maybe thats the smartest suggestion?

damn that sucks maybe you should just get a quick release steering wheel ther not that expensive the only hassle is carrying it around in public im i wrong? or can they get around that 2 besides bringing there own steering wheel?

I say get a steel tube, cut it in half, and fit it around the ignition... Weld it in place.

NRG makes locks for their quick release wheels, I use one just as yet another layer to security.
If you have an alarm, you NEED a backup battery and a backup/secondary siren. Then they can't just pop your hood and disconnect the engine bay battery...if they do, the alarm will still be alive and the backup siren will make their ear drums bleed if they try to stay inside the car. The alarm is pretty worthless otherwise. Multiple kill switches are a good idea too. Oh, and yea re-route the hood cable. Sorry to hear your car got yoinked again :(

It would be but it's basically been replaced 4 (will be 5) times.
As for selling it, I know I could, but it's paid off. Even with the thefts it's not _that_ expensive to own.
Plus, I know it sounds a little stupid, but I don't like the idea of having to sell a car and change my life just because some jackass losers decide they want my car.

at least get one of those little ninja cams or micro security cams so that you catch these bastages each time. Then you can run your own baitcar scam... might even pick up some sponsors... lol

^^ Then you can trap them in a cage and we can have an HAI Beat down meet.

Setup a motion activated camera so we can see who they are outside your house

if anything i would say re run the wires for the ignition, in my old coupe i took the wires out except for the turn signals and wipers... but as for the ignition switch crap.. run a hidden ignition switch... thats what i did...
when they go to look under the dash for the ignition wires and see there not there..
would love to see that face...

The problem with this is that they will still tear up the inside of the car, which is what ends up costing him money every time. He isn't worried about the car being stolen, because they only get it down the street a little way before figuring out that they can't get it to start. The best solution would probably just be something like Conrad's idea.
