they are descent entry level subs. I demo-ed some when they first brought out their line years ago and they sounded ok, but were proned to blown Voice coils easily. not sure about now... with having the build skills of companies like Orion/PPI/ADS and Polk audio under their umbrella there have proabably gotten a little better. unlees you are on a really tight budget or getting a steal on them I would look at some other brands

Directed have been making subs/amps/speakers for almost 10 years. They are more concentrated on their Security. But about 5 years ago they started really focusing on the Audio, They make great A/V components and 3 years ago won the SPL with their Direct 1100d Monoblock amp and a Eclipse 12" Titanium Sub. Now I have heard the SX and the Extreme line and stay away from the Extreme they are their low end and there are better out there for the price. The SX series is pretty damn good for its price range, competes with some of the higher MTX, middle JL, higher Orion and higher Fosgate, for a lower price. Just my $.02. I am still a fan of MTX, Diamond and Orion for subs but I go for clean rather then thump. I am getting old. DEI's AMps though are just sick.

Regarding clean & tight, a single 10" in a sealed box has proven more than sufficient for me & my ears. I use a jl audio 10w2 dual voice coil driven by an old 'cheater' soundstream amp.

JL subs are good, An Arc Audio or Image Dynamics 10 on a Arc Mini 250 would be an excellenct setup. the amp has a foot print of about 4in by 7in
