Ok so I've been shopping around for a first gen dsm lately. Mainly for a better winter car than my mustang. Obviously then I'm looking for the awd varient. Anyhow there is a 91 Talon TSi that has been for sale near my work for a little while. I decided that I'd go take a look at it today. This car is in showroom condition. it has only 33K on it. The paint is in perfect condition (white with white wheels, and black top). The stock muffler still has polished tips with absolutely no rust. The interior is perfect. The car has every receipt for ever oil change, and scheduled maintnance ever done to it. The car has never been curb checked, as there is not a single scuff on any of the wheels or tires. The engine is EXTREAMLY clean. All the metal parts are still shiny like the day it rolled off the assemply line. The turbo has no discoloration from heat...it retaines it's silver matt finish. Aside from the time it has spent in the hard of the place that is selling it, the car has been garaged, and driven only occasionally (wife, and kids outgrew the small interior). The only problem with the car is the radio's volume controll has stopped working for some reason. The place that is selling this car wants 6700 for it. Is the car worth this much?

I bought a 95 TSi AWD talon with every option available in beautifull condition, and 53k miles for $8500. I think they are asking way to much. All the things you describe (interior, engine, even the heat shield) are all perfect. You should be seeing most 1g AWD DSMs for 3-4k, maybe 4.5k for that one.

This usually helps to get a good idea of what a car is worth.

I checked both NADA and KBB both say about 4700 max, but I know how hard it is to find older cars (especially among DSM's) that are in this great of condition. The car has been for sale for quite a while, and judging by the condition it's in, it's likely because of how much they are asking. maybe I'll make an offer of 5K cash on the car and see if they take it.

Me being a DSM guy and have bought alot of them, I'd say around $5000 tops in perfect condition as you posted.

well the car was just sold today. I decided against it...just wasn't willing to pay that amount of money for the car. Ironic enough, I talked to the guy who purchased the car online today. It was a chance encounter...he wanted to know about my stang and mentioned he was from the greeley area and had just put a deposit on a 91 Talon. Just happened to be the same car. He payed 6500 for it. I guess the people selling it wouldn't move from 6700 very easily.

$6700 is way to much. Even for showroom condition.

I bet you they would have taken $4,000 for it. Even in showroom condition, they would have stolen it from who ever they got it from. Even if they stuffed the trade, they still proabably only had like $3000 in it at the most.

i paid 1200 for my 91 talon awd it was in good condition. All it needed was a new axle. Then the tranny was starting to make noise and i got lazy so i sold the bitch for 2800.

ALL dealers ask too much for their cars. no exceptions, stu is right, they had absolutly no money into that car.

I paid 3000 for my 91 Eagle Talon, which I know is a little much because it has some paint chips and the front bumper is kinda cracked on both sides but they wanted 4000 for it.

It has 120k but it runs great even though the compression is low so I know I will have to put some money into it but it was hard to find. The dealer aparently did some wwork on it before they sold it , it looks like the stock turbo is new, and the timing belt was replaced. But they had the timing way off and thought something was wrong with it.

So far I replaced the shocks and struts with KYB's because they were leaking so bad and dropped it on Sprint springs. Oh, and the front brakes were warped so I replaced them with some slotted/crossdrilled ones.

In all that cost me about what I saved off the original asking price.

I think the rare factor may have to play in this case since it does only have 33k (less than 3k a year) on it and probably hasn't been abused. I'd offer $5500 and see what happens. Most 91s I see have no less than even 70k on 'em and they go for around $4k.
