Symptoms started Sunday with dry eyes. Then Sunday night when getting ready for bed I noticed that my smile was a little lopsided. After brushing I went to rinse and noticed that my lips muscles were weak and was not able to keep water in my mouth.
Didn't really think anything of it until this morning when getting ready for work. Noticed that the left side of my face was droopy. When blinking, the left eye blinks slower than the right.
My initial reaction - Did I suffer a mild stroke??? I freaked the fuck out!!
Did some searching online and found a disorder called Bell's Palsy. I had the exact symptoms.
Scheduled an appointment with the doctor today and he confirmed it. I have Bell's Palsy. It is a neurological disorder caused by damage to the seventh cranial nerve (facial nerve). Doctor says I have a very mild case. Serve cases result in total paralysis of one side of the face. Some people cannot shut their eye and are required to sleep with their eye taped shut to prevent damage to the cornea.
The doctor put me on an anti inflammatory medication. There is no real cause or cure for it. Most people with Bell's Palsy make a full recovery, some have permanent damage (worse case).
I am trying to stay positive and not let it get to me, but I can feel it when i smile or blink. All I ask is to say a small prayer that I make a full recovery.
Damn, Simon.. I'm sorry to hear about this. I wish you the best and will definitely keep you in my prayers.

Damn, that sucks man. I hope you have a full recovery. One of my coworkers had it before and recovered from it.
I'll give you another ride in the M5 when you get better. :D
I went to high school with a girl who had this. I guess she also made a full recovery. Best of luck to you sir. Which side of your face if you don't mind me asking. Will this affect your shooting or driving or things like that?

Man that sucks Simon. My twin brother got that back in 2002 I believe. He contacted Viral Meningitis and Bell's Palsy was a side affect of that apparently. He had to sleep with tape over this eye and also had to have this goop in his eye during the day because he couldn't blink.
But like other have said he has made pretty much a full recovery. I'll keep you in my prayers.

barb you are mean... making fun of special needs people!
How long does it take to cure this typically?
Kwando
04-17-2008, 09:02 PM
there is no cure... most people usually recover within a month or so... some take longer, don't at all
Brandon

The girl I go to school with looked like she had down syndrome for about 1-2 weeks but she's all back to normal now, about a month later.

My lady and i discussed this last night. It was agreed if she gets it, she has to wear a half mask like phantom of the opera. If she doesn't make a full recovery, I'm leaving her.

You might want to think twice about leaving her. She would have 1 eye open all the time for you to bust a nut into. :D

Kwando

It has not gone away yet. I feel like it is getting better, but it could be that I am just getting use to it. Good thing is it hasn't gotten worse.
