View Full Version : Anger Management?

In the never ending quest to better myself, I fear that I may need outside help with my temper.

So I ask the great knowledgable people of HAI.

Does anyone know of any kind of anger management classes that are available? Basically I am looking for options other than a shrink.
Is there open enrollment in the Court appointed anger management classes? Just wondering if I could join one of those things by my own will or something. Obvously I expect this to cost some money, but I do not want to pay out the ass for a shrink, unless that is the last option.
Any advice/suggestions are appreciated.
As always, thanks in advance.

Smoke some pot. I'm serious too. I used to be angry a lot of the time. Maybe it's different for you but I smoke here and there and I'm a lot more mellow these days. :shrugs:

I really do appreciate it.....but I already smoke A LOT. Although it seems to simply mask the problem for the time being. I also know that I was a lot less angry when I was exercising frequently. Which I also plan to start doing again. Although I still feel that I need to learn to deal with my anger alot more effectivly. Thanks again Dave L.

I just bottle it down inside. Deep down inside and never let it out.

As cliche as it sounds, I've been able to contain my temper (and trust me, anyone that knows me knows I am short fused and hot headed, runs in the family and I'm a Taurus) by closing my eyes, taking several deep breaths, and counting down from 10. It sounds weak, but it works for me. *dunno* Good luck, though.

You can always try drinking especially Jager. I hear that does wonders with anger.

Yeah, like, it makes you actually follow through with the things you want to do. I.E. Baseball bat to kid's head for not leaving your party when you ask him to. :D

Workout when your angry. Take out your anger by hitting the weights. Works for me.

I don't know whether half these people are serious or not, but resorting to a drug or alcohol (leave the definition of pot and drug out of this, I don't care about that for the sake of my point) is not a way to solve a problem like this. Much like you've experienced, it only masks the problem.

I'd say maybe talk to the courts or whatnot and see if they have a public listing of them available.

Thank you everyone that made serious reply's. Always much appreciated.

I don't know if your serious or not, but honestly that is why I think I am in this situation. The never let it out part is what gets me. Its not a good situation when it does either. Alot of stuff gets broken and all of that jazz.
If your not serious, then go suck some cawk.

I am also going to start doing this again to further expell the agression. Great advice, thanks.

Totally did not piss me off. I appreciate it. I actually posted this with intentions of possibly getting advice from someone in the same situation or someone having gone through it.
I did do some google searching, but a little more help could not hurt. Also it looks like my Health benefits at work will cover Mental health and what not. So I am postive that they have something that can help. I might have to see a shrink, but maybe that will be a little more effective than a one weekend class or something.

I was serious but I'll suck some just to be safe.

I would also think about the future before you get to signing up for a bunch of things. You probably don't want to be in "the system" as someone that that could be a danger to himself or others.

That is another comforting factor in considering visiting a shrink. Confidentiality.

I didn't mean it as a permanent fix. For me, pot made me realize the important things in life and I also learned to let alot of the little things go and not bother me. The important things being friends, family, etc. Instead of getting wrapped up in what society tells you is important. However, I only smoke maybe twice a month now. Just on the days I have nothing to do and wanna really relax. Then again, drinking 2-4 bottles of whiskey per week could have played a part in why I was so angry. ;)

The key is to find out what makes you so angry. What's the trigger? Try and figure that out so you can prevent it. For example, some people get in a bad mood when they are tight on time so if they can learn to wake up 15 minutes earlier, then they aren't stressed about time and can be less irriatable.
