I was wondering if anyone knows how to get mag-chloride off of cars? My mom has a ford expedition that is covered in the shit especially on the windows and I have tried a lot of different things to get it off and all of them have failed. there is not much on the actual body, but the front windshield is covered in it and it seems like nothing will take it off.

I would use a razor and some goof off, or maybe WD-40.

i've "heard" that steel wool works for the windshield... haven't tried it personally.

Steel wool does work wonders on glass.

He is serious. House painters use it all the time for overspray. Just make sure that its the fine grade that you use.

Just curious...what does mag chloride look like? I think my stepmom might have some on her car. I'm not from Colorado originally, so yeah...

I take it you've already tried hand washing it with a good car soap, and not liquid dish detergent?
Edit: MgCl actually dissociates in water fairly easy so does any other road salt, so I'm thinking what you may be seeing is not a road salt. I would go over it with a clay bar and see if that does anything.

i gotta agree. i've lived here all my life and never had anything major issues with it. it always washes off my car with just a regular car wash using the soap brush.
i do recall using rain-x washer fluid once which left a film on the edges of my windshield (where the wipers did not clean). but again never had any major issues getting that off.

Yeah, I've had layers of that shit on my car multiple times, to the point where it was 100% noticble. But that little spray wash stuff at the Dollar hand wash that's sappose to remove mag-chloride usually does it for me...and a supperb was of course ;)
