That didn't get enough votes at the commitee, and it would just completely fuck liquor stores in Colorado. This bill sucks I don't want to work Sundays :frown:

Yeah, grocery stores won't have booze, which is fine with me, because I like liquor stores.

I could care -- I'm not a liquor store owner I'm a raging alcoholic. And having to make 1 less stop in my daily routine would rule...

I just always remembered to buy it on Saturdays but I guess it'll be nice for the convenience but to me it's not a celebration.

Who buys alcholh from grocery stores anyways? Isn't that shit 3.2?

I could care less if I can buy alcohol on Sunday. Whoop dee doo. Perhaps this mean less business at the bars?

that's the whole point; in most states where you can buy liquor on sundays you can also buy REAL liquor from grocery stores.

All I want is to be able to buy some beer on Sunday. I don't care about the hard shit. It'll be nice for those sundays that it's just really nice out and you decide to have a last minute BBQ or something.

Exactly. You can't "Plan Ahead" and "Be smart and Buy on Saturday" when you have last minute things like that come up. Sunday BBQ's FTMFW!

Agreed. I always have enough liquor in stock for a little get together or an evening with the lady; whether it be hard liquor, beer, or wine. I do most my liquor shopping on the weekday as well.

Then don't open on sunday, no part of the law says liquor stores HAVE to open on sunday.

It seems with my friends and me that Sundays there's nothing to do. On a nice sunny day, everyone is just lounging at home. It's not uncommon to just call each other up and say "hey, lets bbq" or something. Now, we don't have to scrape up any alcohol everyone has and can just go buy beer. It's just a convenience thing.

Btw, have any of you heard of tipsy's? I was driving home from the woman's parent's place yesterday and saw what is supposed to be the largest liquor store in america under construction out in littleton. I took pics, will upload them later, but the damn thing is seriously bigger than a wal-mart

One of our suppliers is also a supplier for them. It's 75,000 sq ft. They are opening the first week of April if I remember correctly.

Your right there's nothing that says we have to be open. But realistically, to stay competitive with the other stores we have to be open. It's just hard on the liquor store owners because most all of them are family owned, and the owners are always working, ie. my dad works Mon-Sat 9am-12am the only time he gets off is when I come in to relieve him on Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundays. You know how it is, your family owns a Pho don't they? So you should have an idea of what's going on.

Scott- In regards to getting groceries and liquor in one trip I agree with the convenience aspect, but that's pretty much it. These laws have been on the books since prohibition and the Colorado liquor industry has been built upon that legislation. And you can't really say "Oh, when I went out California you could by Patron at Safeway, blah blah", because that's their laws that have allowed them to do that, and I'm sure you know each state's laws aren't all the same. Example: smog laws vary from state to state.

I sympathize but I don't see how any of this justifies it being illegal to do business on Sundays.

Oh I understand, we owned a liquor store at one point too.

A similar situation was my aunt's convenience store. She didn't want to work Sundays, so she had always been closed. When they opened another convenience store across the street that was open 7 days a week, she had to open Sunday.

Simple solution? She hired a part time employee to work open to close on Sundays, and the agreement is that the profit from that day minus utility expenses was their pay. In the end, she has Sundays off, the store is open on Sunday, and the end month profits are exactly the same as before they went to being open 7 days a week. The only real difference is the consumer benefits.

Hell, the only reason I work at pho anyway is because my old man got sick of working 7 days a week and pushed 4 days off onto me lol.

? -- But California has liquor stores as well. As does AZ, which is where I bought my Patron from Safeway. It's very possible and mostly probable that I'm not aware of everything going on with this rule/law/etc etc etc but laws change.... laws need to change as society does.

I certainly see the downfall IF you're a liquor store owner/worker/etc etc etc cuz you're gonna lose money... but it works A LOT of other places; why wouldn't it work here?? The altitude?

And not to be an asshole; but as many ppl here will tell you, I'm an asshole. And, frankly, I care about me. I would LOVE to be able to buy my good booze the same place I stop to buy everything else.

And yea, I drive by Tipsys everyday...gonna take a loooong lunch when it opens. I also heard it'll be the largest in North America, but just heard it from someone; not like reliably from the intraweb or anything.

Oh and for everyone asking "why is this a big deal" -- It's a big deal when you have a kegerator and the keg runs dry during the early game on a sunday.

the total facility is the largest in the world, but since it has a pharmacy and a sandwich shop built in, the actual liquor floor is 75k sq ft, leaving daveco's liquor at 100K sq ft the largest in the world.

Liquor, sandwiches, and a pharmacy, fucking odd combo.
