my poor teg, its almost dead. 90psi in cylinders. im getting a short block hopefully by the weekend. im putting new rings and rod bearings in. one question is, should i send the block to the machine shop before the new rings and bearings? also would getting a thinner headgasket be worth the extra money, than just getting oem spec? cause i heard all the hip cool ricers use thinner headgaskets to raise the compression. makes sense to me but doesnt seem like it would make much of a gain in hp's.

I say save your money and get an OEM gasket. I would just make sure the deck is straight or since its out of the car any way i would send it off to get inspected, hot tanked and rehoned. I too need to replace the bottom end on my motor. What short block did you pick up? I have a GSR and im not really wanting to do an LS bottom end even though you can pick those up pretty cheap. Any plans with the one your taking out?

Definitely get it cleaned up because you don't want something to go wrong anyways. I would like to redo my block, but only ended up doing the head. It would be fun though.

Get OEM head gasket, hot tank, rehone, block. Make sure top of block is smooth as well....
