I have an 89 hatch with a 97 D16 (came out of civic dx model, though I think someone wired it odb1) and I wanted to swap out for the Vtec head. What all will I need to do besides get a Vtec ECU? I know the vtec solenoid runs off oil pressure. Is there an easy way to feed it that oil and then my other question is around the wiring.

I think a harness if im not mistaken, but i could be. and of course the ecu.

You will need to run the wiring for VTEC. Also you will need an obd1 dizzy if im not mistaken. Thats about all I can tell you.

parts needed.

p28 ecu
obd0-obd1 jumper harness
4 wire o2 sensor
obd 1 dizzy

And then ur going to need to wire every thing up.

you might need a vtec head. if your eng is a dx model with no vtec

Yeah your gonna need a head and its components, and if its dual point you need to wire for multipoint and also wire vtec, your gonna need an ecu. The head will feed itself the oil, single cams dont need an external oil feel line like a b series does when doin ls/v.

IMO a mini me is a really dumb idea and not worth the money.

If you do have d16 out of a 97 im gonna guess its a y7 which is helpful because a d15/d16 hybrid is garbage. Any way yeah your going to need a harness adaptor to run a p28 which you can get from www.rywire.com. Id suggest running a d16z6 head. You'll also need a d16z6 head gasket, timing belt and alot of patience.

For the work your doing and money spending just to make 15hp it really isnt worth it imo. Just go motor swap.

I say boost the Y7 and call it a day. I make almost as much power on my Y7 as a couple people on here have on their Y8's. Their only real advantage is a slightly longer RPM band. You said it's already wired OBD1, do you know which ECU it is?

Negative, trying to sell the old kit right now. Building a new kit for this season.

Ok well I ended up selling the 89 hatch and now have a 97 dx coupe. I was still hoping to swap to a vtec head. I was hoping just to make a bit more power and keep my daily driver reliability. So it sounds like if I still want to do this I will need the following:

Y8 VTEC head and valve cover
Dizzy
Vtec ECU
New head gasket

How much wiring will need to be done to get the vtec working for a odb2 dx to ex head? I thought it was just a matter of wiring the vtec solenoid to the ECU. Sounds like I am probably wrong.

not 100% positive but im kinda sure that since its obd2 all u need to do is wire in the vtec oil pressure switch and a ground...

If you're going to do a mini me definitely get the better flowing Y8 intake manifold.

and dont worry about VTEC wiring..its seriously like 3 wires lol
