which would be an easier/cheaper/better project to take on.

I'm deciding between the almighty Galant vr4 (needs some work)

or

the 1984 turbo dodge colt

(needs lots of work cosmetics and inside)

I would appreciate any feedback, or other suggestions to different cars, I have a limit of 4k to purchase the car

That sucks. 2 tight hard to find car. I would go with the vr4. Old skool, plus tons of parts

I would say VR-4. I rarely see any of them now a days. Be nice to see one all cleaned up.

I actually found a vr4 here in denver for 3500 seems to be in pretty decent shape, needs a little work I think I might go with it!

dunno how mechanicly inclined you are but places liek firestone charge like 20 bucks and they can do a complete vehicle inspection and that can help alot in the car buying decision.

I'd go vr4 just seems like when all the work is said and done you will end up with a better car then the colt.

anyone know a credible shop that will rebuild my 4g63? I'm in no rush, just want to start testing the waters also, anyone know much about the oil pumps on a 92 galant vr4? The guy who sold me the car said he thinks the belt, on the oil pump might need replaced or fixed or something, and I wasn't familiar with what hes talking about... Thanks in advance. -jaymes

I like VR4's a lot.

I do not like, however, DSM's in general... but I love them too. It's a pretty fucked up love/hate relationship.

Well, the oil pump is driven by the timing belt.

If you plan on daily driving a 4g63, better just replace every single thing on it, and leave it stock.

Okay, so maybe I just need to adjust the timing belt? Anyone know a good firestone to go to, I really wish I could find a mechanic that will stick with me through the whole rebuild or someone who knows a lot about dsm's I want to learn all about the car during the process so if theres anyone who has lots of knowledge and would be willing to help me out a little bit, let me know please!!!

There really isnt an adjustment for the 4g63 timing belt. If its not properly installed, it would have/will jump timing on you. I dont know where you live, but here in the Springs, Firestone is one of the WORST plcaes you can take pretty much any car, especially a dsm. I recommend taking it to Jacks transmissions here in the Springs, or somewhere similar. Jack is a DSM guru, and Id say one of the best for the task!

Hope that helps!

Was that the white one? I was looking at the same one. LOL! I like galant vr4's they are sick. Just the same thing like the others say, its a DSM. With as many miles as that thing had, rebuild it and replace everything.

Yea the white one lol, the mileage is high, but it runs like a champ. I'm taking it to the guys at carz on friday! Probably head down to jacks for the tranny here soon too.

you guys aren't lying, funny thing is I was uninsured, and had a pipe and weed with me and didn't get a ticket lol, and the tow dude was so gentle with my car, thank god... He talked about it the whole ride home lol, with a big dip in his mouth playin country music on the FM, hahahahahha

Rainer
03-15-2008, 11:35 PM
LOL! That is hilarious. Yeah, dud that sucks. Good thing you didnt get caught with the pipe. Good thing he was gentle. All the tow guys I have delt with have been really gentle, well I only have been towed once, so he was nice. The gys that towed my car definitly were not redneck, but one was from Cali.

Why would you get a ticket for the pipe? The cops had no reason to search you.

On another note.....I fucking hate that exit, getting on 6th or getting off fucking sucks. You usually have to cut people off like crazy to get anywhere. Although at 2 AM I doubt there was a problem.
Who towed it? Ace?

Jaymes
03-17-2008, 05:58 PM
Yea, ace towed it driver #121 aka Larry, I called them and told them he did a flawless job with my baby lol

Sometimes cops can search for just a hunch. My friend was pulled over for speeding, they searched his entire 4runner, they tore apart his car. They found weed. So i guess since your car just fell apart, they wouldn't search you.

Sometimes cops can search for just a hunch.
Indeed, but my point was basically that unless you give them a reason/hunch then your usually in the clear. You would be suprised what you can get away with, just so long as you do the speed limit and don't act like a damn rookie under pressure. Then again I don't usually leave much to chance with that kind of stuff.

I agree there is no need to search you if you dont give a reason to get pulled over. Ive got two tickets im learning still lol.

03-19-2008, 02:00 PM
Well even then, I have been pulled over many of times. I think I have honestly been searched 1 of those times. That was back in California though.

hrcDSM719
03-19-2008, 03:24 PM
Actually, cops CANT search on a "hunch", they have to have probable cause. And believe it or not, speeding, etc, is NOT probable cause.

If they smell an alcoholic beverage, or marijuana, or something else illegal, they have all the right in the world to search your sheit. Yor buddy got SKROOD!

jackmode9316
03-19-2008, 03:59 PM
Yeah the thing about probable cause is that if you don't give them permission, they find a reason.....sometimes.

Rainer
03-19-2008, 07:03 PM
Yeah they can just say they smelled something. The cause could be made up.
