It's a method of painting a car. The domestic guy's use it to paint there cars. It's rolled on with rustoleum paint. Sounds crazy, but the results is great.

I read that Ford is going to start using the roll-on Rustoleum method on all the new '09 models.

Yes, a few members here have done this method.

I trust they have mutiple colors? It might be worth it to do a makeshift paint job on my hatch.

Chris V did this on his 240sx and his Civic hatch. It turned out decent... once he got the cat hair out of the paint.

My dad did this on the truck, and when we were in lowes buying the paint they looked at us like we were crazy. The truck turned out amazing for a "do it yourself" paint job. I'd say, if you got the knowledge of how to paint, and the equiptment, try it out. I'd say its way better than going and getting an expensive paintjob. :)

Then again... We're cheap asses. :)

I thought his name was "ilovehotdogs12", thus indicating that he's either the 12th person to love hot dogs that much, or that he loves a quantity of 12 hot dogs. I'm not sure which...

Son of a bitch. I deleted that account you bastards. For the record, I'm painting the jeep this summer. I can't do it right now because I can't risk having it not driveable for a week or however long it'll take me.

No, No one has taken pictures. Not even of Chris V's 240....which seemed to turn out pretty damn good.

seems like a good idea. i would make it a $100 paintjob and buy a car cover. you think a gallon would be enough?

dude I have a '91 Chevy utility truck that the paint is peeling on, I'm gonna try this! That 1st car turned out bad ass!

How many hours total I wonder did it take, would be interesting to put that in to a dollar figure along with the $50 materials charge

Im also wondering if there is any "glossy" looking black colors that I could use. Anyone know?

Vanniek71

I have used gloss black before so I know they have it

In rustoleum? I'm seriously going to use it on my hatch. I normally don't give a rats ass about cosmetics, but 50 bucks? You really can't get much more economical than that. I guess in the end i'm just a cheap ass.

Vanniek71
03-13-2008, 03:57 PM
it won't cost you $50 for just a hatch, rustoleum is really cheap like maybe $10 a quart. I'd link to the color swatches they have but don't have enough posts to link stuff

I used maybe half a gallon on my coupe.

Time? Depends on how concerned you are with the final product. If you do 6-8 coats and sand after every 2 you can spend a lot of time on it.
I did 6 coats on the back, and I think 4 on the front because I had a race coming up and wanted to get it done. 4 seems to be holding up well. I didn't final sand it much because I was looking for durability over cosmetics. It's tough paint. 2 seasons of RallyX and she stays uncovered outside all winter. No sign of chips or rust for me.

Vanniek71

gonna take a hella long time if you coat and wet sand it 7 times.

but if you have the time and want to save the cash looks like the way to go!

If u look some of the jobs on honda-tech. U would trip. Time and sanding is key with this method.

I bet. You can almost put a glass shine on it as well with just sandpaper if you go to a low enough grit, after you buffed that sucker it would be awesome.

I am seriously going to try it on the '91 Chevy farmer truck I have
