I just got a copy of the e3 doom 3 demo. It has three levels in it and a ton of bugs. The only resolution is 640x480 and my computer can only run the game at maybe 15fps. It's the most detailed game I have run across yet. I'll try to post some screen shots later. The monsters in it are VERY detailed and very cool looking. This should be a sweet game when it finally comes out.

From the look of the code I have it's going to be a few months. I have no idea when the release date is though. The menu system isn't finished, I got all kinds of vertex overflow errors on the console, and the code doesn't seem to be optimized yet. At least I hope it wasn't optimized. You have to use the console and jump from level to level to play otherwise it crashes.

I just found the fps counter and turned it on. I get a max of about 13 fps and average 4-6fps...........yikes!!!

Here is an in game shot of your main character. The detail is crazy, and as you can see so is the framerate.

It's hard to get a halfway good screenshot from the game, but here is an ok one.

The guys at ID havent really set anything in stone yet, but I'd guess early next year sometime. Maybe an early summer release. The machine they had the doom theatre running on at qcon was a p4 2.4GHz with the Radeon 9700 pro. It was BADASS!!

Anyway, it WILL be the benchmark for ALL computer games that come after it. Its engaging, the sound is fucking AWESOME, graphics are truely amazing...anyway, I'm an id software slut so I'll shut up now...but damn. GO DOOM!!!

I guess I am pretty behind in the times. The only Doom game I ever played was not even close to that. It wasn't impressive at all.

Heh heh heh. Man - my geforce2 card just don't cut it. I can't imagine what the doom3 demo would do to it...

A guy on one of the boards I checked out was trying to run doom3 on his radeon 9700 and could only get 40 fps on the lowest resolution. He hit like 12 fps at 1024x768.

I'd say it depends on more than just the video board. FSB, RAM type and speed, Proc manufacturer and Mhz, HDD manufacturer and speed, even mobo manufacturer can all come into play. I'd like to get my hands on a 9700 to run on my XP2100+.

The guy was running it on a p4 overclocked to 3.x ghz, 1 gig of ram, UDMA100 drives, ect ect. He has a killer system. The game just runs like shit on current hardware.

Like I said, my system is no slouch. Athlon XP 1900+ running 166mhz fsb, 512 mb ram, and I hit a MAX of about 12 fps, but when in battle get 2-3 fps with the resolution set to 640x480.

My geforce 2 system is an old athlon 850, 100 mhz fsb, pc133 ram, 7200 rpm drives, etc. It's just old.

I've also got the same vid card in a p4 1.6 ghz box and the gameplay is somewhat better, but still "lacking".

I'd like to give it a shot on my comp:
P4 2.4ghz, 512mb ram, GeForce3 Ti500, etc.

I'm sure I could at least push it to 30fps :D

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/emule/eMule0.22a_Installer.exe?use_mirror=telia

use that link to download e-mule. Then use

http://www.sharereactor.com/download.php?id=58332 and http://www.sharereactor.com/download.php?id=58303

to get teh text file and the game. I would host it here, but we are already nearing our bandwidth limit.

How long did I take you to d/l these?

I've got a 1.5mb dsl line, and I can't even seem to get the d/l started at all with either file.

Am I doing something wrong?

Oh yeah you probably don't have a server list loaded. http://ocbmaurice.dyns.net/pl/slist.pl?download/server-good.met

save that file to your emule directory and restart teh program. Make sure you click the connect button. You should be good to go after that.

It helps to open the port in your firewall too so that the transfer speeds increase... I went from 2 days to 8 hours.

Brian

yeah if you ahve a firewall it gives you a low id and greatly reduces the number of sources for the file. The program starts off kinda slow because it uses a credit system that builds as you upload to others. Mine is cruising along at a respectable 60k right now.

If you guys want other games or movies check out sharereactor.com . All of those links work with emule. You can also check out some more info on emule at www.emule-project.net

Well..its not a legit even ALPHA version...what do you guys expect? Carmack said its going to run on hardware thats out now...anything from a TNT2 up..

I'd say there is some better code out there..nobody gets to play with it.

They hired armored carriers to haul the game rigs for qcon and got them right out of there after it was over....I'm really surprised that someone leaked a shitty pre-alpha. I'll wait for the real thing. :)

yea cards now are going to run it slow... it's not a speed or ram thing, it's a features thing.... Looking at the pictures you can tell that they use bump mapped textures everywhere, which are quite computationally expensive (have to calculate lighting effects on each pixel), they also use very realistic lighting and shadows, no point source lights there.... the biggest thing imo though is the volumetric fog they use to create the hair/fur, really sweet effect... but geforce 4 cards just introduced support... still a lot of optimization that needs to be done untill it can actually render it real time at a decent rate. Next gen G's will handle that no problem. The polly count isn't much higher, just all the extra features...
