I'm looking for the absolute cheapest full coverage I can go with. I'm 18, got one speeding ticket, and everywhere people want $330+ to insure me.

Is there anyone who has any ideas where it can be cheap?

And heres a list of places I've tried and the rates they quoted me:

Titan : $479
Allstate $crazy
Progressive $crazy
American Standard Insurance company of Wisconsin $330
A All or something insurance : $465
My personal favorite, Travelers insurance : $781

So yeah, any ideas?

A few things - what vehicle is it for? What deductibles (I'm assuming $1k)? Is that per month or 6 months?

Is that for a 6 month policy? Or a year policy? What kind of car do you have? Also, you have to understand that both your limits, and your deductibles can change what your premium looks like. If you had $2,500 comprehensive and collision deductibles, the lowest limits possible, with no rental, no OEM endorsement, no med pay, no uninsured pd, etc (you most likely won't get any of those but MED pay anyway) then your rates could be significantly lower. I wouldn't recommend it though.

Well, I need the minimum full coverage that Colorado allows. I've got a 2004 Acura RSX Type S...

Those are all for a 6 month policy, 1k deductibles.

So like M@ asked, this is the monthly premium for a 6 month policy right? As in $400 a month for 6 months?

Minimum limits is just asking for trouble man. I understand though, you sound young and poor.

If it's $400 for 6 months total (what.. 80ish a month?) that's very cheap, actually, for your age.

No, thats PER MONTH.

I fucking wish it was just 80 a month.

Wow, that's pretty steep. I won't be of any help, sorry.

You work for an insurance company or something?

The weird thing is, I get nothing for doing so much college at the age of 14.

Why would you get anything for doing college at 14? What does that have to do with anything?

If it was $80 a month, it'd be less than half of what I pay for full coverage.

I was asked several times for grades from College (School) in order to get a 10-20% discount (depending on which insurer) and I get cut no slack for finishing fairly early.

You fit the demographic which the insurance companies use to rape their customers. My 18 yr old son lives at home, his 11 yr old vehicle is in my name, and we still get raped on just comprehensive.

I'd think that your performance in school would affect your premium, not how quickly you were able to finish.

With that said - if you find something 'cheap' I'd like to check into it for my son.

$479 for 6 months is awesome. I remember paying over $550 just monthly.

you just have to man up if you want to drive, and have a nice car. i don't think there are ways around it. i remember when i had my accord, the insurance was mroe than the car payment...

it "might" help if you got married

I remember looking at DSMs after we moved to Colorado in 1990. The insurance would have been more than the car payment - I just laughed and continued to drive my old abused mazda. :)

Best thing you can do for yourself is shop around. AIG, Ameriprise and State Farm are my insurance companies from past to present.

$330 sounds just ducky to me being 18 with a speeding ticket and an '04 RSX. *shrug*

+1.

If you want cheaper insurance you will need a different car. Something that doesn't attract thieves would be helpful.

Otherwise you gotta pay to play.

You try Geico? They offered me about 115 lower than anyone else.

 at this thread. What did you expect? You're 18, have a ticket, and have a nice, sporty car. Insurance is not cheap. With Allstate, you have to have 3 years driving experience before we can get you a preferred policy. So in the mean time, even though you only have one ticket, you have to go into the high risk line. Also, do you currently have an insurance policy in force? That's another huge factor in insurance rates these days.

Nope, never have needed it. I've always been under someone else's policy.

I did find a cheaper way, I can get it for $286.67 from American standard blah blah.

If I could get a good student discount, it drops to about $250, which is what I'm looking for. Any advise on how to make my college affect this? (And yes, I was a 3.9 gpa)

They have always asked me of proof of being enrolled in school (Full time) I honestly sent them 1 report card, and my insurance has been the same ever since. Hell I didnt even get an increase with my accident or tickets......yet :(

You have to understand that from an Insurance Company perspective it doesn't matter what you did a few years ago in school. Otherwise we'd have non-college guys bringing in Middle School transcripts to justify their good student discount. While I understand you deserve a pat on the back for obviously kicking ass in academics, insurance companies are taking the same approach that you are in shopping for a rate, "what can you do for me RIGHT NOW". Rules are rules and they won't bend on many, we couldn't have someone walk in and say "Hey, I have 8 tickets in the past few years, but I want you to give me the credit from 4 years ago because I was a good driver then".
On a good note, as long as you keep your record clean, it only goes down from here buddy! Dave is right though, 18 with a ticket and a expensive car, it'll be rough to get a great rate. Ask what discounts you can get however, maybe for taking out a renters policy or something like that you can get a pretty large discount on your auto. Good Luck.

Yeah last time I checked the RSX-S was on the top 10 priciest cars to insure (along with everything else cheap and fun). My 20 yr old friend (stationed in NC) paid $425 per month (shitty driving record) for six months and now is paying $225 per month.

Full coverage (uninsured motorists, comp, collision, roadside etc) for me (20 yrs old, clean record) with my own policy and a 95 Civic DX is $91 per month or like $60 with only liability and comprehensive. This is with State farm and is actually cheaper than it is on my parent's policy with Allstate.

Well if its only for a few months that its insane, I'm fine with that.
